View Full Version : Valor: How important is it?
I ask because when I send units to be "repaired" they lose their valor. Is it worth losing all of their valor so I can add more troops to the unit?

they lose NO valor
a units valor is the average valor of each individual man
when retrained the overall unit valor may decrease but the vets in the unit will still have thier old valor
after the patch renables log files u will be able to check individual mens valor

If its like STW, then its not so much that the Valor gets lost, as much as it gets watered down.
From STW, the Honor was the Average Honor of all sixty guys in the unit. So, your ten guys with 9 Valor are still "in there", its just that the other fifty guys with ZERO valor are dragging down the average.
Supposedly, there is a way to check out each individual guys personal valor - but I dont know the way.

Units that are brought back up to full strength do not have their valor reduced.
The computer averages out the valor of ALL the individuals within the unit, to arrive at a new value.
Example:
A unit of spear, valor 2, 60 of them left would have 120 total valor points.
Add an additional 40 spear to make the unit a full 100 strong, and spread out the 120 valor points to all 100 of them. Average becomes 1.2 (120 divided by 100).
In this example, the displayed valor would be "1"
Example #2: 60 sword, valor 1 get whacked hard by a herd of Kats....20 left.
Rebuild the swords up to full strength, total valor 20 divided by 60 = valor .33
I do not know if there is a rounding mechanism in place, or if the specific valor values require a threshold to increase.
Average valor of .99 may still read as "0"
Cheers.
What they said. Its a great system they have made too. Makes sense.
From what I understand... for every valor point your unit has, you get +1 to Attack, +1 to Defense and +2 to Moral.
from this I would say its very important to maintain as much valor as possible. Also note If you notice on the battle screen, besides the units main banner, there are small triangular flags that other members of that unit are carring. The small triangular flags indicates the valor of that unit.
Must be something wrong then because I had a +5 valor unit with about a third of its' strength down when I repaired only to find all the valor was gone.
Valour 5??? Are you sure?
I can understand it under the command of a general that gives 3 Valours, but it is so unusual for a unit to gain more than 2 Valours in combat.
So it is not unlikely that the unit had 2-3 Valours when at the castle...

Hi Paladin
Did you retrain or merge unit as merging would certainly explai it.
Thanx
Yep, it was a five valor and then it disappeared after just the re-training. No merging.

Kraxis have the point Paladin, are you sure they were 5 star (standalone-not under boost of your army general)?
If they are really 5* alone and lost after re-training yep something is wrong http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif
But all my TW experience I haven't see something like that (and I usually re-train my units to keep honorable fighters in) http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
