View Full Version : Installing Multiple Versions of EB

I'm in something of a quandary here, hoping for some advice :dizzy2: .

I've been away from EB for about 6 months. Crazy, I know, but I became temporarily deranged (began painting some miniatures :juggle2: ), and now I'd like to get back to EB.

I see that version 1.0 is out. I currently have two previous versions of EB running on my system, a version 080 install and a version 081a install. I also have a 3rd install of vanilla RTW, patched to 1.6 for Barbarian Invasion.

I'd like to keep all previous RTW/EB versions, as I have long-running active campaigns going in each, and I'm just obsessive-compulsive enough to imagine I'll want to return to both occasionally :clown: .

So my question is this: can I safely install yet a 3rd version (1.0) of EB on my system, without screwing up the other two? I have plenty of disk space, am running Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1/SP2 with 1 gig memory & a 3.2 GHz PIII single processor. Both previous versions of EB run fast & well.

Also, I've forgotten how I originally installed the multiple version (age does that to you :embarrassed: ). If I am advised that I should go ahead & try to install EB 1.0 while keeping all my previous RTW/EB installs, could someone give me a quick refresher/hint on how I do that? I'm assuming (remembering?) that I just install a new fresh RTW 1.5, then run the EB 1.0 download to it, but I'm a bit fuzzy on the mechanics.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You need to make a full copy of your old installations, just in case. The installer is wont to ravage your old installation, unfortunately, but when you have a backup you can just put that back afterwards. I imagine you won't be returning to the old versions soon, though. Unless it for some reason doesn't work on your computer.

Remember to download the fixes :beam:.

Thanks, Bovi, I'll give it a try. My old versions of EB both reside in their own set of folders, so I'll presume they're safe there from the depredations of the installer :beam: , since it won't know that they exist.

If you installed 0.81a or 0.81aV2 into that directory, it will be destroyed. If you moved it afterwards, it's safe.

I renamed the 081a folder after installation, rather than actually moving it. I assume that keeps the 081a installation safe from the 1.0 installer?

BTW Bovi, thanks for the help :2thumbsup: .

Rename = move :2thumbsup:

Keep in mind that some files reference the "/EB/..." folder. So, even if you are playing a version in a separate folder, it will still be using the particular files that are in the folder "EB". If the files differ largely in your renamed folder and the "EB" folder, you will get a CTD.
