How does glorius game option work?

I wonder how it works to play with glorius victory, is it like you win the game if you have the greatest techs at 1453? Or does the game ends earlier?

You gain points as the game progresses depending on how well your are doing, the faction with most points in 1453 wins. It ends before that if you conquer the world, of course.

However I think the game doesn't award points properly, so as of now it seems fairly pointless... I tend to ignore victory conditions when I play anyway, and go for odd personal goals like only ever long-term holding one province at a time etc.
