I am almost tearing my hair out over this one. I have uninstalled MTW Gold Edition, yet it continues to tell me whenever I try to reinstall it that I still have it installed. What do I do?

Hello YourLordandConqueror.

Gold is very sensitive about previous versions being in the registry-so you may have to clean the registry or remove whats there manually. This usually happens when an older version of MTW is installed/uninstalled, and then you try to install MTW Gold.

You can usually force a reinstall by running the setup program from on the disc itself and not the autorun setup. That should fix it.

.
If all else fails search the registry for Medieval Total War entries and kill'em all. :viking:

1. After the uninstall, did you reboot?
2. Did you uninstall throught the program or through the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel?

Double check the control panel/Add/remove programs to see if it is still listed. If so, click remove.

After adding/removing programs, you should reboot your computer to ensure that the registry is updated.

Hope this helps.

I did that too. I am slightly mystified as to why it is persistently telling me that I still have a copy installed. I also don't get why they put that "feature" in in the first place. I own the game, why can't I have multiple copies of it on my computer? I really need to find a way to install this, otherwise my moding work has come to a screeching halt!

It's happening because you probably had MTW/VI installed before. You need to install the Gold Edition from the setup file on the CDROM and not from the menu, if that fails you should to go registry (backup first!) cleaning and search for anything related to MTW and remove it. You should then be able to install normally. You can install multiple copies by running the setup program from the CDROM and pointing to another folder. The first three replies to this thread have already told you everything you need to know in order to proceed.

I've tried installing from the disc, that doesn't work either. How do I get to the registry?

Hello YourLordandConqueror,

Click Start

Then Run...

In the Run... window type: regedit

There should be 5 HKEY_ enties

Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Click the + sign and a list will drop down

Find SOFTWARE

Click the + sign and another very long list will drop down

If you scroll down that list and find Total War then there's your problem. Its an old version leftover.

If you are no longer using that old version you can right click Total War, choose delete and Delete it.

Gold should now install.
