Different mods

I was wondering....
when I came here I did only know the rome total realism mod, but looking around at the forums, I discovered a couple of new ones and it seems vanilla mod or something is pretty popular in here...
so I'd like to know what mods exist (it would be handy if someone could make a small list) and I could also use some advice about what 3 mods or something are the best...( and maybe a small motivation :p)

Can I also know if there exists a mod for RTW, STW, MTW and MTW2?

There are lists about but I am not sure if any of them are up to date. It'd be nice if someone who is not busy would keep such a list. The TWC Wiki one is the best organized imho and probably one of the more up-to-date ones.
