First of all, I want to thank every EB member for their wonderful work! EB is indeed the best RTW modification!
Lately, I have been experiencing something strange with my laptop. I am not an expert, I hardly know anything about computers as I just use it for gaming, music and movies. Anyway, while playing as the Makedonai, I fought some battles and got a wierd blue scree saying something strange things about cheking my virtual memory or something and my laptop made a weird noise. Nothing happened, whichever button I pressed. I had to remove the battery and when I restarted my laptop, my screen had fallen from 1440x900something pixels resolution to 880xsomething (lowest I have).
I have been getting this for a couple of times now and it's driving me crazy! I would be very grateful if you could help me with this, as know I am laying siege to Syrakousai and am having the same thing every time. I just can't go further!
Some thing that might help you:
1) I have more than enough memory
2) I have never experienced this before installing EB
3) I get this frequently when Campanian cavalry attacks me. I know this sounds crazy, but first time I laid siege to Syrakousai, I stormed the city, got charged by Campanians and got the blue screen. Second time, I had wiped out every defender and Campanians where left as last unit within the town center. I deploy my phalangitai and then they charge me. Guess what happend? Blue screen again! I have got this before as whel, when attacked by some axemen, so it can't just be the Campanians.
4) I don't have internet connection, so it can't be a virus or something alike
5) I haven't updated anything on my computer for a loooooong time. Can it be I just need to do that?
Thank you in advance and keep up the excellent work!:2thumbsup:

I'm afraid this is rather vague. Perhaps you could record the exact error message the next time? I a couple of suggestions for you, one is quite technical and the another could become very technical.
* Run scandisk on your harddrives. Include a surface test. This will take a lot of time with exclusive access, so do it overnight or right before you're not going to be using your computer for a while.
* Download Memtest from memtest.org. Similar to the scandisk, leave it running overnight or when you're leaving your computer, for the same reasons. You can only do one of these two first points at a time, however. If it gets through 10 passes without problems, your memory is peachy and not part of this problem. If it comes up with errors at any point, you have a problem and this is where this one gets very technical. Let's take that after we see if it indeed is a problem.
* I want you to increase the amount of virtual memory to at least 2GB. There is a good guide for how to do this linked in the installation validation sticky. Ask if you're clueless after reading that.
* Please run the installation validation and post the results here (using Axifile, Rapidshare or another free hosting service).

Thank you very much my friend for your reply. I will try what I can, but it may take a while as the only free days I use laptop are Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I will however post the results as soon as possible. Thank you again for your kind help!

Say it's been a long time since I played EB and I got down on it. I played a new campaign with the KH, everything good no problem until I faced an Epeirote army consisting of 1 unit of Hetairoi Aspidophoroi. I charged them with my Hippeis and guess what? The moment they fired at me with their javelins I got that damn blue screen again... Can you please tell me how to increase my virtual memory? Oh yeah, and I tried another mod (ROP) and when I faced javelin cavalry there was no blue screen... Hope this can finally be fixed, as I want to start a new Makedon campaign and write an AAR. Thnx in advance!
As said, see the validation sticky for how to increase virtual memory size. Please say which parts you don't understand. I'll have to ask internally about the Hetairoi Aspidophoroi.

It's not the Aspidophoroi's fault for this, it's javelin cavalry. See what I wrote about Campanians at first? Can you also tell me where I can find the validation sticky? Anyway, I'll see what I can and inform you about my progress.
EB Validation Tool here. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93236)
Go check out everything on that page. Make sure you download all the permanent 1.0 fixes (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93820) as well.
And I saw the tutorial on how to increase virtual memory in the EB validation thread, but it's kind of obscure (have to click a link and go to the third post of the thread) so I linked you to it (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showpost.php?p=1789894&postcount=3). Just look at the bottom paragraph of the post.
Oh, sorry, I forgot all about your first post, it's been a while. Yes, the Campanian cavalry have caused crashes for people. If you don't use them, you'll get past the problem.
But you're saying that all battles crash, right? Then there has to be something more amiss.

Well, I've recruited Campanian Cavalry and used it a few times, yet I'm thinking about disbanding them, as they (though not crashingt the game)cause strange things during combat - black lines going everywhere on the screen, when the camera moves too close to them (as probably was the same problem with Praetorian Cavalry). It seems that both the Campanians' and Praetorians' bugs have sth to do with their skins - maybe reskinning them (and possibly remodelling?) would solve the problem?

Not all battles crash no, just those in which my enemy uses a unit of javelin cavalry. The moment they start firing their javelins at me or charge me, I get the blue screen. I will upgrade my virtual memory then try my luck further. If there is no difference, I will just remove the Campanians and Aspidophoroi. Thnx for the answers everyone!

Ok guys, everything's fixed at last. It was my virtual memory after all, it was set on 1512MB with maximum 3024MB. I set it to 2500MB max 3024MB, played the game and had no problem with either Aspidophoroi nor Campanians. Thank you again for your replies lads and keep up the good work!
Glad to hear that! Enjoy :beam:.
