View Full Version : No peasants in EB?

This is a minor question, but one I still want to ask.
Is there a peasant equivalent in EB. I see under the govenor buildings that it says "enables training of freed slaves". Are these the peasant equivalent? If that's the case, I can't seem to recruit them. They don't appear under the recruitment tab. I installed the game today and like it, but I need to have peasants for a cost effective garrison. Is my problem an error, or do peasants not exist in EB?:inquisitive:
Thanx!

No peasants. The unit you see is only there when a city rebels to prevent a CTD.

Peasants don't exist in EB. You do have a lot of cheap units for garrison.
The freed slaves appear only when a settlement revolts

Thank you for the quick response time!
How odd?? I've gotten so used to peasants to keep the peace, at a good price in RTW. Then how do you keep the peace with out spending tons on units that never see action???(I would acually like an answer/your opinion to this question, if ya don't mind.)

As far as simply keeping order goes, the best unit for garrison will be the one thats cheapest. Remember some units have more men than others and go on an upkeep cost per man basis, you can't really go wrong.
Obviously you may want to "splash out" a little on your border provinces though.
Hope that helps (in time this time! :laugh4:)
Cheers

EDIT
Oh and remember you don't have to garrison your cities at all if they have a good enough governor or are happy enough alone if you feel they're safe.

slingers and toxotai are always cost effective garrison troops along with skirmishers like rorii/velites/akontistai

Historically, peasants weren't used for mass warfare.

Besides, the Freed Slaves, Apeleutheroi, are there because of a bug, I believe. IIRC, the team had to solve this weird CTD that has to do with cities revolting, and the Apeleutheroi make sure this CTD will not happen.

Lugoae and Akontistai are good. Leves and Rorari are pretty decent too. And depending on the location eastern skirmishers, or anything with 240 (on huge) in it may do.

It was 02:00 in Dacia. And you call yourself a Dacian....

:beam:

My peasants are Komatai (well komatai = working class and komatai are lvl 1 factional MIC units), but they have a better fashion taste then some other peasants :cough: Greeks :cough:

EB has tons of buildings that raise public order.

Thanx for so many helpful responses.
But I honestly will miss those peasants in vanilla RTW . The reason I can construct massive armies to send abroad, is because I have a cheap garrison force to keep the plebs happy back home.
It will certainly take some getting used to...

Don't worry, cheap peasants wearing LS will get back in 1.1.

Wait, no. Nevermind.

It's cheap peasant wardogs wearing LS. People are aiming for historical accuracy here you know.

Are you sure about the peasant wardogs? Are you sure it is not about hippeis intercepter ducks?

that's strange....playing as hayasdan, I fought saba in the mideast and they kept sending full stacks of apeleutheroi towards jerusalem/heriosolyma (which I controlled), so just asking, is saba the only faction (other than eleutheroi) who can train Apeleutheroi?

No faction can train Apeleutheroi, however they regularly appear when a city revolts to your (or any other) faction.
