Legacy of Megas Alexandros

Prologue : Legacy to be Transferred

Part 1

Agora of Alexandria-Ariana, Summer, 222 B.C. (39 α.χ 'ανεξαρτησία χρόνοs' 'Independence Year')

"Herodotus! Herodotus! is that you?"

Unless my hearing ability isn' impaired from all noises of merchants and citizens around me, it must be Euthydemos, my closeset friend and one of the top prospects for Headmaster of Academia in Baktra. When I turned back, my confidence in hearing ability was recovered instantly.

"Euthydemos! so good to see you again! I am glad that you can actually hear things, seeing how loud this city is, particularly in this agora"

"don't worry man, the whole city is loud because of recent giveaway by Heliokles, the most generous man in entire Baktria!"

"what did he gave away that the whole city is loud about it?"

"you won't believe it: 3000 mnai worth of food and cloths was distributed to people, plus 1 mnai of money for each and every person alive, including women! That's something that will surly become legend of this entire region, if Heliokles doesn't do anything else at all"

Considering that male population of Alexandria-Ariana is just around 10,000, it is really jaw-dropping act of giving.

"what a legendary governor! I have a feeling that it will be a pleasure to work with him, though I heard nothing of what the work will be. Speaking of work, do you know what are we going to work on?"

"well... he didn't tell me anything about what he is planning yet. I really don't know."

"hmm..."

"we will know by sunset anyway, so let's have a meal and chat in my house!"

good time with best friend(s) is one of the best moments in one's life. I thoroughly enjoyed meal and chatting. As sunset approached, we left the house.

Mansion of Heliokles Baktrios, heir and brother to Agathokles Baktrios, Basileus of Baktria

Considering he is the heir to the throne of Baktria, I was suprised by the openness of his mansion. Guards were properly positioned, yes, but the atmosphere surrounding it made the mansion gave me that feeling.

"My name is Herodotus Pergamonikes, headmaster of academia in Prophthasia. Here is the invitation letter"

"confirmed, sir. Please enter"

As we entered the garden, dozens of people were chatting each other. Some of them were prominent scholars, some of them headmasters. After a period of greetings and introducing each other, Heliokles Baktrios appeared.

Here comes the first part of AAR!
It isn't long nor exciting, but I promise it will become much more interesting and entertaining one.::beam:

Would one of you advice on use of greek words 'ανεξαρτησία χρόνοs'?
I know nothing about Greek, so I just used InterTran online translation to get it to represent "Independence Year". Help on this will be greatly appreciated :book:

rest of prologue will come in 24 hours! :smash:

Part 2

"Welcome to Alexandria-Ariana, people. For those of you don't know my face, my name is Heliokles Baktrios. I am sure most of you are still puzzled by my letter, which did not state what work I am looking forward to do with you all. Before we discuss about work, why don't we have a meal and relax? I assume many of you are still tired from long journeys, especially those from Persis and Hindus"

By the time he mensioned names of Persis and Hindus, I realized that headmaster from Baktra didn't arrive. In fact, Bactra is the closest city from here besides Prophthasia. I wonder why he is not here yet.

We are led to the inner garden, where several long tables with various kinds of fruits and foods on them. Euthydemos and I got seats close to Heliokles, while we didn't talk much, he seemed to be the person as I imagined - generous, easy-going, and trusty-

An hour passed by, then Heliokles stood up from his seat.

"Gentlemen, I hope past hour was relaxing to you all. Let's talk about what we are going to work on."
"As you all know, next year is the 40th anniversary of our independence from Arche Seleukia, which was decided in the Battle of Hypastolis. I greeted the victorious army of my father, Diodotos Baktrios, from the gate of palace. I still remember that thrill and exitement from that day. Unfortunately, as I grew older and older, most people experienced it died, without leaving any written account of that battle and its consequences"

That was surprising, I thought. In fact, I do not recall seeing any written article about the Battle of Hypastolis in Prophthasia.

"As I searched for accounts of battles in many cities, I was quite disheartened to see that there weren't much account not only to the Battle of Hypastolis, but the entire history of Baktria. None of written account was professionally written, not to mension numerous biases and exaggerations"
"Therefore I decided that the history of Baktria should be written now, before everyone who experienced the founding of Baktria are dead. It will not be written from uneducated individuals nor severly biased individuals, but from top scholars and headmasters of our country who can write professionally, without biases or exaggerations"
"I talked about this matter with basileus, how and where should it be written, how much time and mnai is necesssary. He promised he will give full and unlimited support in this project"

People clapped their hands, experessing gratitude for this decision.

"I also talked with headmaster of Academia in Baktra. He also supported it and promised that he will commit as much resources as possible. Unfortunately, he declined the job of chief editor due to his declining health. Therefore I assign Euthydemos Sardikes, headmaster of academia in this city, as the chief editor "

I could swear that Euthydemos, for all intends and purposes, froze for three seconds. But regained his sense and replied firmly.

"It is a great honor to be appointed such an important job, sire"

@ Wolfman : It is not offense at all, actually it is from Star Wars. I thoroughly enjoyed when I was younger. Maybe the Force will guide me through this AAR , or not. Final part of prolouge will come in a few hours! :laugh4:

@ hooahguy : I read yours, too bad your computer couldn't handle the problem...
I am really enjoying your Getai AAR! Keep up good work!:2thumbsup:

@ d'Arthez : My conquest will be westward, as you can imagine. I guess Ptolemies will the hardest to deal with. It is actually interesting to see the "Barbarian" factions -Lusotannia, Sweboz and Getai in this campaign - expanding well.

@ Ayce : That trait means basically he is too superstitious to do things normally. It gives him -1 Management

The 'Boz look a little 0.8-ish... at least the Boii are doing their job well.

Great start to your AAR, young Skywalker, I will be following this one with interest. May the force be with you. :clown:

I planned to write the last part of prolouge in a few hours, but sorry to announce that it will be delayed couple days because of university:book:

@ EmperorOfNothing : Thank you for reading :beam: By the time yellows clash with me I hope I can deploy some kataphracts upon them:smash:

@ CaesarAugustus : In some campaigns, Boii actually gets overrun by Sweboz within few years of starting. I wonder how do they get by the spawning army.

Thanks to you for following my AAR, hopefully it will be entertaining. May the Force be with you:clown:

Saka look kind of anemic. Didn't do too well against Pahlava, did they?

It'll be interesting when you go to take on Pahlava. How does their military stack up against yours?

Keep going! You have a very interesting perspective; and history as it was of course can't be reconstructed 100% - allowing all kinds of historic liberties in the AAR.

Yeah those kataphracts will destroy nearly everything in their path, they should do the trick.
:charge:

Agora of Alexandria-Ariana, Summer, 222 B.C. (39 α.χ 'ανεξαρτησία χρόνοs' 'Independence Year')

"ανεξαρτησία χρόνος" should be "έτος ανεξαρτησίας".

Other than that, EXCELLENT AAR! :2thumbsup:
