Well, this is kinda the sequal to my last thread "Invadeing Almohead" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/Forum7/HTML/002449.html

Turns out the Turks have taken a disslike to my shipping. Suddenly my proffits are only 1500 a year. My biggest trading partner now is Elmo. So, I'm thinking Elmo's invasion has been called off but I still have the armies I builted up for it. MY ships curcimnavigate the world now. I can move any of my forces anywhere. I have no allies (I attacked Hungry in a vain attempt to grab some land after the Turkish mess. I won but they retook with double the men.)

So, im wondering what I should do. I have 2 or 3 full stack armies of good units and another of CLansmen all able to strike anywhere that water laps the shores. I also have 2 or 3 crusiades trained ready for launching...

Should I attack Turky or just wait? Both Turky and Elmo refuse to be my ally (Turky is Enemy, Elmo is neutral).

Thanks for your help fellas...

Be careful that dam Elmo is a backstabber. The Turkey is the same thing. Seems all of the muslim is a backstabber...

Dont really that trading profit. Get your "War Chest" in order. Then you can get 'em... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you on the field of battle, and hear the lamentation of their women.

1500 income? How much in the bank? Personally, I think you need to build up your income a bit, at least double it. So, perhaps your conquest s/b about taking and keeping coastal provinces with 3 tradeable goods; and/or further build up your existing provinces with tradeable goods.

Can you "protect" your trade lanes? In other words will you win a sea battle if attacked? Or, does your potential target have ships in the seas? Can he produce ships quickly?

You need to assess how the "interruption" of your trade network will effect you. How long will your war chest last? In my experience, that means fight and win a sea war; and then rebuild your trade network. You should destroy your targets shipping (all) BEFORE a land attack. You'll need troops to in newly conquered provinces to forestall (or deal with) rebellions. You'll need new troops if counter-attacked. You'll need bishops to convert the muslims, etc. etc.

Presuming, you've built up your tech to an appreciable degree, then from this point its about managing your economy to sustain war; and managing your Loyalty to avert rebellions. Allow even ONE rebellion in a long held province and sht will soon be going in a handbasket real quick.

I think that's enough to chew on for a while.

Have Fun!

loyalty is good accross the board. Thier navy is slaughtering mine...I cant replace the boats all that fast and I have no war chest.

Pretty bad huh? :-P

Thanks for the replies...

Just read your posts. Hope you don't feel bad, in my campaign as the Danes. I did similarly, even though I knew better. I "forgot" to take out the French ships before I attacked. They totally broke up my trade network, though I've managed to save most a lot of my ships. I have 5 provinces building ships so I replaced the ones I lost very quickly, but now, I just can't rebuild, I've got to protect. That means 2 or 3 ships in each stack all the way to the Black Sea. I went from approx. 4K florins a turn to -3K. Got income back to just a few hundred negative and will soon be back in the positive, but still a long way to go. Many ports have been destroyed so not as many partners available; AND I'm 50,000 florins in the hole!!! This is gonna take time (which I haven't had yet) and is going to be a challenge. Playing on Hard.

My advice to you:

1) Maintain your "present" income at all cost.

2) Forget expansion for the moment. You absolutely need to take the seas and rebuild your network.

3) I might pull back and regroup. I'm thinking, pull back have a few rebel stacks pop up to create a buffer zone between your key provinces and the enemy. Let the rebels chew on them for awhil.

4) Build some SHIPYARDS!

5) Use your income to builds ships. Your in a sea war you've got to win.

6) Once you've got the network, then build a warchest and go on the offensive. Rather attempt to wipe any particular faction. I'd go for the wallets. Take and keep the money provinces.

That's my take.

Now, should I go back to my Danish campaign? NO!! Got to get some sleep. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

My key provinces are buried so deep in my lands it would take a while to get to them. Still, as I look at the map I relise if Elmo gets frisky he can reach them in a hand full of years. I cant, however, build up any more defensive units becouse my cash is going for more ships and a rescue operation in the middle east.

So, if I can carry out a sucessful invasion and drive to my trapped men inly useing basic units that I can afford then I should turn out ok and still get done what I need to. Ofcoarse its a deadly ballence act; If I fail the invasion and loose alot of men Novigrod will plow me under like a rotting plant. My forces are stretched...not thin but getting there...

Oh what a tangled web we weave...
