View Full Version : [Is there a] Jan/Feb Preview[?]
Sorry to be a pain as I generally don't like people who ask for updates (although I always read the thread just in case there is some info :shame: ) but is there going to be a preview this month?
I may have missed it but didn't see one last month and I am just a big kid when it comes to this mod.

Argh, olly, you...silly fellow! I saw the title and I thought it WAS a preview!
I think my heart is broken now...
Couldn't you have phrased it 'Is there an Jan/Feb Preview'? I don't know how many EB members dead of heartbreak you'll cause in the next few hours...

There are no current plans for one.

Yeah, but thats more EBII, rather than EBI. On that note however, you should see what else we have been working on. Oh my God, it looks incredible. Some of the other units just look amazing.

I hate you, Foot. You're doing that thing again. Tempting us with beauty we have to wait as long as the Imperial reforms to get... :(
Now I'm getting all dehydrated from all that drooling.
Bad Foot. Good olly! ^_^

Just imagine what would apparently happen to you if we released EB2 straight away? That extended period of drooling suspense is just there to train you cope with it. And let us have some fun with it too beforehand.
Brb, need to change pants.
Holy hell, those troops are amazing. They really bring EB to life on another level, it's gonna be mind boggling.
And Foot, you're right. We should see all the other units you guys have been working on. Let us have em!

I hope EB 2 waits at least a year from noiw bwfore it is released. The only forseeable thing that would occur if EB 2 was released now is that the drool that would have been released slowly iver a long period of time would all come out at once. So by all means, slow and steady so we get a good finished product.

People are still complaining about how their Cpu's aren't fast enough to run EB1, how in the world are they going to run EB2 within the next two years?! :laugh4:
two years is just the time i think i will change my comp.

What would be the requirements for a not too slow, or a fast run, for EB2?

Since I'm in the market for a new computer, I - too - would like to know if there are any ideas on system requirements ... or perhaps "preferences"?

Indeed, I'm in the market as well.

Probably the future equivalent of an EB-Proof rig nowadays?
No, honestly how is anyone supposed to know? On one hand the M2TW engine comes with the assumption of a much more potent PC than does the RTW one. (AFAIK the optimization towards lower-end-of-the-market system isn't pursued as far as was the case with RTW which runs on minimum requirements comparable to that of an age-old semi-3D strategy game we all know as 'Age of Empires'...)
On the other hand the entire scripting department seems now much more smooth, and much more integrated design: no more fancy work-arounds for the lack of persistency with event-counters to name just one big obstacle which causes the reforms to be far more complexed in EB1 than would ever have needed to be the case with the improved support of scripting for M2TW. Another is that it appears at least one big chunk of movement code & spawning code for client rulers and similar events can be immensely simplified because of the support of abstract names (labels) and more abstract commands for controlling characters on the campaign map. (Think of this: you can name a character by a label, and let the enigne do the gruesome task of keeping track of his actual in-game name. Then you can move him by using the label, rather than the actual name.)
I get the idea, thanks for th help.

So I assume then that my current computer that can easily run MTW2 with highest settings and many even newer games with equally high settings should be able to run EB2? Though from my experience the processor is more important when it comes to handling the script. But 2 years is a long time, who knows what will happen. Maybe (Zalmoxis forbid) I will only have a weak work laptop, or some other horrible thing. Maybe I´ll be a billionarie with a personal supercomputer that can run the entire worlds economy while still giving me zero load times in EB2. Or maybe mankind will have been wiped out.
That would be horrible, especially if I survived, and had to ponder for the rest of my life on how great a finished EB2 would have been. Oh horrid thought, may the never come true.

I would assume so to. Besides: it's all a matter of personal preferences in the end: some people complain about a minute of loading times, others happily wait out 20 mins just to get to the loading screen.
Just a little thing which is of actual worth helping you, methinks: with EB1, even though you might've set the unit details setting to low, you have actually been playing with highest detail possible. The reason is that EB1 for just about every (or just every) unit offers you only the highest level skin; and does not provide for the lower levels. This is something to keep in mind, since quite honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the same eventually goes for EB2. (~500 skins to do instead of ~500 times 5 levels of detail, you see...)

BTW, that image was taken on my crappy PC, so it will look a whole lot better on a better gfx card.

What would be really awesome is when clothing worn by combatants would change with the season. I always feel so bad for the poor guys who have to go fighting mid-winter bare-chested (or even bare-...)~:(

Do you guys realize how much variation you are talking about creating? For each unit? Take the original number of (hundreds) of units, multiply by the numbers of skins for factions, the number of upgrades in armor/weapons, the changes in winter/summer? If we had a dozen full time skinner/modellers, we could do it, but we are very thin - it's extremely difficult to keep good unit artists for long times. At some times during EB1's history, one guy was doing a large majority of units (spartan warrior and stefan25 really just *poured* units into the mod at different times), though others were steadily working on some also. Find us a lot more unit artists and we can start thinking realistically about offering all that incredible variation.

We don't think realistically, we just watch the pantodopai http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=146680
and drool.
And I wish I knew how to model/skin and had the time for it. I would do everything I could for the project I love and adore. Alas, I just have to drool and enjoy the goodness you give me.
