Ok, is there anyway to do this? That is, I have made a few attempts to clear out some rebel uprisings, in some of the provinces where I can see the rebels about to clear out another faction. I'm not willing to allow this now as it's my JOB to clear out other factions down the road. So, I pop in, knock out the rebels, start the chase, etc.

Is there a way to hand over the lands back to the beseiged army that I didn't attack? When if I went after another faction in lands that I currently do not want (high costs, rebels, etc.) just to clear out their armies, is there a way to hand it over to another faction?

I've heard some talk of autoceasefire. What is that? is it just a concept of self control from attacking another faction, or is it a real thing?

If there are still besieged troops in the castle you just leave the province and they will be in power again (I think). On the other hand: they probably will not have the troops to hold the province (the reason for the rebellion in the first place). I dunno, perhaps if you cause a loyalist revolt?

Yeah, I've rid naples of rebels as they had the Pope holed up in a castle. (I held the papal states and Rome and didn't fancy a Pope re-emergence.) They had nowhere to retreat to though and so were destroyed. Not sure if there is any way to do it otherwise....

Okay if I understand your question correctly then there are two possible outcomes.

First is, if you are allied to the faction that is being besieged by the rebels, and you come in and wipe out the rebels, then you men should go back to your closest friendly province, one of yours, or they might get ransomed back. I know you save them then they want you to pay to get your men back, anyway, the province will then return to the faction you saved, and they send their thanks.

The other possibility is you swoop in, defeat the rebels, then you become the besieger. Though that would only happen if you were neutral, or at war with the other faction to begin with.

If you're asking about if you end up with the province, and want to hand it back to the faction that originally had it, then the only way for them to get it, is if you go to war with said faction, and get it so they attack whichever province you want them to have.

And if none of this helps... then I say wait for the resident super genius.

Nara is right. Note also that helping a besieged ally will raise your King's influence.

Auto ceasefire happens when there is no contact between you and your enemy for one turn; that is, no common borders and no ships on eachother's coasts. Or ships in the same sea zone, IIRC. Something like that.
