View Full Version : persistent CTD (Eleutheroi)

I play as Rome, 241 BC, and there is an Eleutheroi army that is spawned by script. (Full stack with gold and silver and general with the big hate against Rome, greek and Karthaginians) I destroyed one and this is the replace-stack.
Now I had build a fort, moved out and the E. moved in. I layed siege to the fort and since this I have the CTD.
If I don't activate the script, nothing happens, but if I activate it one turn later it crashes again.
I haven't used the bugfixes from https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93820 since none seems to be connected to this.
Any suggestions?

But I'd advise not to lay siege to it then.

Cured the problems on my other computer, had to reinstall XP 2 times since the first time something had gone wrong :wall:
back to topic: savegame: http://uploaded.to/?id=l4gbsy
addittion to above: V1.0, no mods, place: north-east of the alps, near the town north the town under the river-crossing (I can never remember the town names ^^')
Permament fixes don't change anything
Temporary fixes changed something: The game didn't crash at (near) the end of the eleutheroi turn, it crashed right at the beginning and not directly to desktop (message: Rome encountered an error...)
I got an immediate CTD after downloading your savegame so I couldn't test it. However I doubt that there is a cure for this. Simply don't build forts near one of those five settlements (Eburonum, Carrodunum, Iuvavoaeta, Seliun-Pilis or Gintaras-Ostan). The defending roving generals are repositioned at the start of the Eleutheroi turn. If they have entered a regular settlement the script detects that and will not reposition the guy, since that will cause a CTD. Forts are a different matter AFAIK, and I don't think we can write code that detects that they are inside a fort, and even though I haven't managed to create the situation in your game, with a defender inside a fort, I can imagine that the reposition command on a character in a fort will cause the same sort of CTD that happens when it acts on a character inside a settlement.

Could different (vanilla) language games the reason (in general)? Or are the saves 100% saves to exchange?

Yes, it seems that the fort is the key. My only hope is to try to win, but I dont think I can win this even with all the mercs possible to recruit. My army is build to win a field battle. Without useful cavalry its impossible. (all the gold chevrons)
Solved the problem with auto_win attacker. The enemy general is dead, the fort gone and the turns seem to go.
