I remember back on RTW and BI there were speeches when you went to battle. Why'd they take them out, or do I have them turned off or something? I always liked those speeches.

Most factions do still get speeches. Some though, like the Turks, hardly ever get them. Others, such as the Scots, only get very short speeches.

Thanks. Ive only played Poland and Spain so far, and I haven't had one yet. I'll check the options next time to see if they're off or something.

Most factions get speeches, but only the big factions get the long/good speeches (such as England, France, and Milan).
They give the speach before you hit the "start deployment" button, so make sure to wait before deploying if you want to hear the speech.

Hmmm, well Spain at least should have had speeches, since they use the Latin voices (along with Milan, Venice, Sicily, and Byzantium). I haven't heard of an option to turn off speeches though.
Are you playing with any mods, unofficial patches etc?
my guess is ur just not waiting long enough, when the start deployment button comes up wait a while, the camera pans a bit to look at ur army then eventually it settles on your general who starts his speech

Also .. if you fight against very small enemy army then there is always a change that you wouldn't get even that one liner ..
this happens mostly when fighting against rebels .. at least it does for me if I have superior army and rebels have just one unit ..

well, is there really a need for a rousing pre-battle rally when you have the enemy outnumbered 40-1 and have superior equipment?

Not really .. but sometimes those one-liners are pretty good so it makes those brigand fighting battles more enjoyable :laugh4:

I played a campaign with Russia and didn't receive any speeches...I used to enjoy the fact that my generals gave speeches. I think it adds to the atmosphere of the game. Of course the speech isn't vital, it's just an extra bonus.

I mainly listen to the speeches when i have a difficult/impossible battle to come (defending a city with few militias against 1-2 full stacks and such) to push me up a little and get that "heroic feeling" to fight til death and take as much enemies as possible with me! ;)
So i use them for pretty much the same purpose that these speeches were for in reality i think... ;)
