View Full Version : Unit bonuses

This is mostly about battle-map bonuses.

1. If a unit has the "Bonus for fighting in woods/snow", what kind of bonuses do they get? Morale, stamina, or just attack? And what if they happen to be in the woods while it's snowing?

2. What about the "Bonus against cavalry" and the "Bonus against chariots/elephants"? What kind of bonuses do they get? What about the phalanx?

3. What about weather and its effects to the compound bow (or, for that matter, any kind of bows)? Is it simply a range decrease, or is attack decreased as well?

4. On a hill, other than a range advantage, what other advantages do archers/missile units have? What are the bonuses if you charge an enemy downhill? Are there any if you fight while in a higher position?

5. How do the general's command stars affect the fighting ability of his men, other than morale?

6. What does it mean when a retinue/trait says something like "+1 Command when commanding infantry"? Does it mean that it only works if infantry is a majority in your army, upon which the command bonus is applied to all units in an army, or does it only affect the infantry, and not the cavalry on the same battlefield?

7. If a family member that is not commanding in an army (i.e. there are two or more family members in an army) has a trait that, say, reduces the morale of the troops, are they calculated? Because it seems to work with governors.

8. Is the phalanx bugged? I lost more general's bodyguards charging a decimated German spear phalanx on the brink of routing from the back than I did similarly charging a Gallic chosen swordsmen unit.

And yes, that's all of my questions. :sweatdrop:

And yes, that's all of my questions. :sweatdrop:not 100% everythnig might be true, but i dont have much time to spend in ludus magna at moment :sweatdrop:

1. In EDU you can find lines

stat_ground 2, -2, 3, 2
first - bonus in 'scrub', second on sand, third - forsets, last - on snow.
What they get as a bonus I dont know, presumably attack or exp with given value.

2. It seems they got very big bonus for that, in range 4-12 (again either attack or more likely exp)

stat_pri_attr spear, spear_bonus_8for spear infantry

mount_effect elephant +6, chariot +6for skirmishers etc
mount effect values adds to the all stats (melee too, stupid of course)

3. here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=40888) says decreses kill rate.

4. Height advantage. From personal feelings about +8 att/def. in melee (higher than veryhard btw)

5. here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=44549) says melee bonus as well

6. Of course first (it's a RTW after all:sweatdrop: )

7. Not sure, but think they doesnt matter..

8. Phalanx 'has' same anti cavalry-charge bonus from rear as from front. The only difference is from front they are almost untouchable..

Simply search Ludus Magna (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=88&order=desc) for very interesting stuff.

I see...... that is just plain unfair. What about when they switch to short swords? Does the anti-cavalry bonus still apply?

Thanks for all your other replies too.

No, they switch to secondary weapon which has no cavalry bonuses at all (unlike skirmishers with mount bonuses)

What about weather and its effect to the compound bow?

And German Spear warband have no secondary weapon, so always use their spears and always have the spear monus against mounted
