View Full Version : HOTSEAT - Poll for Grand Campaign Hotseat 2 players

Hey everyone.

I've been thinking a lot about the role of assassins in hotseat games. Assassin wars can add an extra dimension to a game (see the Crusades game for an example) and result in shocking twists (like the alleged assassination of a Norse King in the Britannia game).

However, there is some possibility of abuse. In the Kingdoms games most factions start out decent sized and fairly well developed. The very smallest I've seen are in the Britannia and even they are about as largest as the biggest starting factions in the Grand Campaign.

When you only have two family members, an assassin spam can easily take out your faction. I've been thinking that maybe the GHC2 could do with a temporary ban on assassinating faction leaders, effective for maybe the first 20-30 turns or so, where everyone is consolidating into fewer, bigger factions.

What do you guys think? Is it a good idea? Is the faction leader bonus against assassins already big enough to make this a nonissue? Any input is welcome.

sorry, I just voted in this without realising it was just for GCH2 players...(even though it says so clearly in the thread title)

stoopid monkey - remove 1 yes vote from your final tally...

well, i think assassins are good, but they often fail. it would take some serious assassining to wipe out a faction. just adopt more! haha

That's what I've been trying to decide on. I've seen assassins do eerily well, and even take out a faction heir, and when most factions are still small adoptions are rare.

However, Faction leaders have an even larger bonus to personal security than heirs, so maybe it's not enough of a risk to be a concern.

You saw nothing! Prince Magnus died of a heavy cold...

I'll keep that in mind.

If anyone is wondering, I voted "gah". :clown:

Sure he did. :clown:

I voted yes. My faction leader is so old I wouldn't mind seeing die of a heavy cold.

Hmmm so are we allowing adoptions in MPC2 or not?

Yep.

Factionheir, you know more about game mechanics than just about anyone else. Do you know how much of an effect the personal security bonuses have on the chance to assassinate a faction heir or leader?

From someone who is considered as Master of Assassin by some (;-)), killing Faction Leaders unless you have a highly skilled assassin is virtually impossible unless he has rait such as welcoming or something of the kind (something I saw on Moctezuma when playing the Aztecs...)

That pretty much ends that worry. Thanks, Tristan.

Poll closes in a few days, but unless the votes skew tremendously towards
"no" I'm not going to worry about it anymore.

Each and every Faction Leader or Heir I've killed in the Hotseats was killed in the field or in sieges...

I won't risk an assassin when odds are at 5%...

Much better to kill them fighting...

If you are trying to assassinate in foreign lands, its difficult. If the leader is in yours, its easy.

I'd vote to allow it; the playing field is already uneven so there shouldn't be too much bother if it skews a bit more. Also, FH, I'm pretty sure GHC2 does allow adoptions and MoH generals.

Oh, so I've been rejecting offers for nothing?

I think the MPC is the only hotseat game that doesn't allow adoptions.

I'd view it more as passing up less able applicants than rejecting offers for nothing. :clown:

Well I can't be bothered with agents (stupidly) and so send them in anyway and have yet to see one fail in a hotseat, despite minuscule odds. The Polish King was at 8% and my assassin killed him first time and so have many others.

Ummmm, I've been accepting adoptions, should I have been?

I'm sorry, but I don't follow the other MPs as much as I should.

I haven't even had any adoption offers :(

But I think we are allowed OK, it is the original MPC where you can't
