I just had 2 allies.. the spanish and french.. walk through wessex and snag my 4 best generals all at once for their stupid crusade! (2 were 8 stars and 2 were 6 star generals!!)

The manual says I can refuse them to passby, but I just realized in all the time crusaders have come by, I have never been once asked if they could enter... and they are my allies!! How do i fix this? I worked for hours to build those generals up and now they are gone like that.. I don't even get to lose them in an epic battle...

odd, you get a pre battle screen asking if you give permission. if you say yes they cross your territory. if not they either attack you or they bugger off.

Are you pressing space to skip computer moves? If so, then don't, since doing this is a "yes" answer to all the pop-up menu questions, such as the question whether you want to let the crusade enter your land or not.

What I'm curious about is the whacky routes that some AI crusades take. I've had crusades to the Middle East go for a short trip through England to Scotland, then take ships down to Spain. Maybe they were on tour?

Oh, I'm not reporting it as a bug, in the same way as those threads. I remember thinking about it and checking it out, and, as it turned out, land route would have been the same length as going through Scotland to Spain. It just struck me as strange to tour through my territory rather than take a land route.

There are some issues with crusade pathfinding that should be fixed in the patch.

Maybe they were trying to deplete their rivals?

I know I did that when I was English, and the Spanish were my neighbors. I created a crusade in Aquitane, then immediately put it into Aragon for a few turns. Then into Spanish territory. I especially liked putting it where the Spanish were building up for their own crusade. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Of course, the Spanish conquered my target before I could get there, and my crusade was disbanded. I don't think I got my units back, either. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Well I know one thing.. the damn Spaniards were leeching my troops for 9 years!! His target was off in constantinople, but for some bizzare reason he kept stepping onto my province of Anjou, then back to one of his, then back to one of mine, then to his, then to mine.. and so on.. for 9 turns! He leeched the army of 1600 men I had there down to around 700... once I moved the army away, sure enough he stopped doing it and went on to his target.

Irritating AI.

If you refuse to allow a crusade to pass thru you are excommunicated and the Pope will probably ask for a crusade against you.

It's very unpleasant.
