View Full Version : AI Battle formation problem

This always occurs if the AI is reinforced by a friendly army.
The code for the battle formation of reinforcements seems to be bugged somehow - the reinforcing army arrives at the battlefield and acts very strange: Instead of setting up a compact formation it scatters across the whole area - 2 or 3 units together, some even turning their backs to me. Even if i approach, they do not react - only if i attack they engage in melee.

Anyone encountered the same problem?

Yes and no. It seems the AI can't decide what to do with it's reinforcements: at one time thinking they should act under the banner of leader X, only to conclude that perhaps it's better to wait until X is dead and go with Y instead. Upon which it reflects and decides exactly otherwise again.

The problem is alleviated when/if you destroy/rout the other army; then they will get some sense and cohesion again. But whether or not this is actually a problem caused by EB code (in txt files) or by some weird and unforeseen interaction between various routines in the RTW.exe (beyond our powers to heal)...

The reason i thought my case is appropriate for the "bug" section: I had EB installed on my old notebook aswell, but due to the gained firepower of the newer machine i play on huge unit size now - only on the new settings i noticed this kind of behaviour aswell.... thought maybe it is due to my settings.

In other words....reinforcing armies are rather buggy, no matter the formations being used or the mod being played for that matter. They were buggy in vanilla as well. Although, if the attack/defend formation(s) within all the formations themselves are not modded correctly or perhaps are a bit off in where units are placed within the blocks in the formation itself, it could make what's an already buggy situation even worse. FYI, unit settings (as defined by other files) do have an effect on how the units themselves interact with this file.
