View Full Version : Low-end pc fsps that are still being played
Vista laptop, but I am thinking about upgrading it to xp, 1,5 mghz with 512 mb ram, and a videocard that doesn't do shaders. Supposed to play the first battlefield perfectly is there still activity there? Quake 3 mods perhaps?

I hear there is a very committed community of online BF1942 players, but they open up servers only at certain times, mostly during weekends.

Grab yourself a copy of Operation Flashpoint
Bit too heavy for my specs probably, never got it to run smoothly on a faster machine, and while I adored the single-player, especially that mission, and you know what I am talking about, where you are all alone gawd the tension, the multiplayer was somewhat of a mess.

how bout wolfenstein et, cs1.6, or day of defeat 1.5
Or maybe Halo 1, runs very well on my rubbish PC which is very similar to yours.
Well found me a bundle of Battlefield 1942, after 4 attempts vista finally didn't run out of memory. Now this is supposed to be a question but my keyboard got swapped again so the questionmark is nowhere to be found but how for the love of god can I invert my mouse
edit, and set the resolution, there are many options but clicking on them doesn't do anything. Same with mouse, there is an option to alter sensitivity and invert the y-axis but clicking on it does nothing.

Halo runs ok, except at points where there are reflective walls, then it slows to a crawl.
Ah well inverting mouse simply isn't possible but it stopped working anyway after a lot of crashes and 30 minute reboots and a lot of other, very weird and seamingly completily random errors. Now sits proudly among the other programs that just won't uninstall but make the OS cough up blood anyway. What on earth was I thinking buying a vista laptop when I could have waited for that oh so slick new ultra-thin I-book that actually does what it was made for. Vista is the biggest pile of crap that was ever fisted for beta-testing.

Condition Zero is pretty low-end, and the game itself is balanced and very moddable.

Good old CS.....
Well if you are looking for a really old FPS, try Red Faction. One of the very few shooters with destructible scenery.

While Red Faction was a fun romp, the destructible scenery seemed tacked on in the campaign. It was more for amusement than survival, unlike the multiplayer mode which pretty much forced you to blow out mini tunnels with grenades and rocket launchers. In the campaign, the areas where blowing holes in the walls/floors/etc gave you an advantage were far too few and inbetween.
