I finally decided to try the utterly rediculous and boring single player campaign one night, and decided that it would be fun to try to use peasants only on expert as byzantines(So i wouldnt have to deal with byz inf.) I managed to screw over the turkish but just died badly after that. I think I died in battle or something not sure.
I have 2 questions.
1) How can I keep non peasant units out of my army? I had an army with some guards and napthas, and katas which i never trained. Why is this? I guess a governor gets horses when he's titled? But I don't understand the guards etc? It's annoying when im in battle and have to withdraw units i dont want.
2) Any tips for winning with peasants? Something I can exploit etc? Maybe a cheap way of beating huge armies or bribing etc? I really dont want to have to resort to peasant battles if I don't have to.

utterly rediculous and boring single player campaign????

Personally I quite like it...

Anyway..

To keep peasants out of your army, just disband them, get them back to the field where thay are of use.. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I find them so utterly unreliable as to be useless..

Militia units are not much better, professional soldiers and mercenaries are the way to go..

Whenever a heir come of age he gets a free unit of guards and appears on the map (as does the king)..

Also there is some thing about marrying a pricess to a governor with a Peasent unit turns them into guards (never seen it though)..

Winning with peasants???? Thats a laugh. I suppose against other militia or peasant unit they stand a chance, or if the ridiculously out number the enemy (and I mean like 20 to 1 in the case of professional soldiers..)

Bribing is great if you are making loads of money, saves development time, can get you good generals etc...

Remember though that the unit you bribe may not be large enough to garrison the province for you after the take over..
