Hi!

So I laid siege to Messana and a message popped-up claiming, that this is a violation of some treaty. This means "Carthagians" will come after me? OK, I don't want to wage war with them yet.
Are there any other likely events I should be aware of?

Thanks

Look at the faction leaders victory conditions trait, you will see everything you need for each faction you play with

Well, thanks, but there is nothing about the non-aggresion pact I mentioned earlier.

it should be written below the cities which you need to conquer. Sth like an attack on messana will start a war with carthage

Oh. I'll take a more through look :)

The reason why your advisor says that, is through scripting of EB which pretty accurately represents the Third treaty of Friendship between Rome and Carthage. If you don't want to fight a war with Carthage, simply leave Messana and Sicily in general alone, go north fight the Eleutheroi and come back when your strong enough

Is the treaty broken the moment I enter the territory? Or do I have a chance to leave? Luckily I saved the game before that and then loaded. Any othe such surprises? :)

I blundered into the same thing, Biges. I quickly ran away - not able to handle a full-fledged war vs. Carthage at that point. They never came after me - to answer your question. Much to their later regret, as I built my forces and economy up and blitzed Sicily.
If you play as one of the Greek factions, there is a similar situation regarding the "holy" city of Thermon. As Rome it matters not. Specifically, It is 234 BC in my Roman campaign and I have not run into other situations like this. But ... I still have a long ways to go.
Keep us up to date.

Well, I like to play as a honest man, to keep my word, respect treaties, make peace if possible. So I hope these Carthagians will decleare war on me in the future... I can set my goals anyway :D
Well, on the other hand, I'm starting to get frustrated by the time it takes for other factions to play. Once it is too much, I'll have to swich to different mods 'till I get new CPU (got AMD 2800 w 1,5GB RAM).

Biges, the treaty as such is articial not related to the RTW alliance systems. So being honest and all will prevent you from conquering Sicily, as the warning appears anytime you enter Messana.

About the warning itself, I think it takes a turn or two after the warning, to have the Qarthis declare war.

A last advice, do not fear those silly Phoenicians... I have never seen them master the art of amphibious assault, so the chances they attack you on land with reinforcements from Africa are very small.

I get them bastards very easily. Once I conquer Sicily I go North to finish the Blond ones (during that time the Carthagenians are doing nothing). Then take Sardinia and Corsica and go to Afrika. They were never a problem. Except once when I tried an expedition in Spain and I got my full stack of well balanced units slaughterd. Since then I start the conquest of Spain from the North down.

There are several factions that have "invisible" alliances with independent cities. Top of my head: the KH will declare was on attackers of Thermon, Trapezous and Sinope; the Ptolemies are allied with Cyrene and Halikarnasos; and Pontus will respond to attacks on the Bosporean towns. I also recall reading somewhere that Byzantion was allied to either the KH or Pontus, but I have not observed this in my campaigns.

I got a message when i entered Byzantine territory as the Makedonians that the city was allied to the King of Pontos, along with other Bithnyan territories and that transgression may result in war. Not really that scary. I took it anyway.

If this will help anyone, its the table of contents for the Allied Cities part of the script (so lists all these events).

;7: Allied Cities Script
; 7a: Qarthadastim vs. Ptolemaioi (Ammonion)
; 7b: Attacks on Chersonesos (KH)
; 7c: Attacks on Byzantion (Pontos)
; 7d: Halikarnassos (Ptolemaioi)
; 7e: Kallatis (Getai)
; 7f: Qarthadastim vs. Ptolemaioi (Kyrene)
; 7g: Seleukids vs. Ptolemaioi (Kyrene)
; 7h: Nikaia (Pontos)
; 7i: Pantikapaion (KH)
; 7j: KH vs. Pontos (Sinope)
; 7k: Thermon (KH)
; 7l: Trapezous (KH)
; 7m: Qarthadastim vs. Romani (Messana)

Cheers

Kinda off topic but what does it mean to raid a settlement in EB?
I'm guessing like sacking: massacre popluation and destroy all buildings?

It means that you must have conquered it at least once, but actual possession is not important.

That was indeed very interesting and very helpful. I appreciate the legwork, Overweighhtninja. Does seem like the KH have stuck themselves out on a limb there with so many allied city states.

No problem guys only took a minute, glad I could help.

Hehe yes, makes for some great campaigning if you're playing as them though.

You forgot Aduei vs Lussotan (Nunmatia -sp?)

This is not listed in my TOC, and just to be sure I checked the code itself too.
My EBBS script has not been modified, you are using 1.0 yes?
Perhaps you mean this?

;8: Special Events
; 8a: The Chersonesos Event
; 8b: Tomb Of Alexander
; 8c: Baktrian Independence
; 8d: Roman Triumph
; 8e: Seleukid Anabasis
; 8f: Pahlava Shahanshah
; 8g: Sweboz Triumphs
; 8h: Devastation Script
; 8i: Parthia Horse Discount
; 8j: Gauls - Epeiros Alliance
; 8k: Celtiberian Alliance
; 8l: Rhegion (Romani only)
; 8m: Spartan Agoge Messages
; 8n: Xanthippos
; 8o: Yuezhi Invasion

If that is the case this is not part of the Allied Cities scripting (although there are some simmilarities), it's a bit more complicated and has a few more options.

For example spawning a couple of brutal CeltIberian armies on the campaign map! :beam:
