View Full Version : Having issues with Vista

I want help from you Vista users out there.
After I switching to my new laptop, which is using Vista.
I started to experience two wierd problems with EB.
First one is the console key, below the "Esc" button which no longer works.
Now I saw another topic with this problem, however no solution was brought up.
Now the second issue is that I am having wierd CTD's before battles on the campaign map.
This does not happend all the time.
However when it does, it happends each time I try to fight this battle.
So it's kind of repeatable in this sense, if you understand what I mean.
It's really annoying, since some battles are impossible to fight because of this.
I have all fixes installed, and deleted the map.rwm before starting my campaign.
This might be an issue so I am going to mention it, I am using BI.exe.
However I had no problems with BI.exe previously on my previous computer, so naturally I blame Vista.
Another thing is that my RTW is installed in the "Program Files" folder, I read it might be a problem. But im not totally convinced.
Frankly I have no available save game right now.
But I will post a save game the next time I experience this, and I know it will happend again.
But Bovi I know you aren't using Vista, so not sure if that will help much.
Just to make sure I'm almost 100% this has something to do with Vista, so that's clear. :)
Anyways I just wanted to know if there is anyone else with these problems, and if anyone knows possible solutions.
Any help is appreciated. :)

I do believe that the console key doesn't work on Windows Vista if the Windows Media Center Remote Control USB receiver is plugged in/enabled. Try disabling it and/or unplugging it and see what happens.
Good luck ~:)

Possible solutions are known, posted frequently and even included within the EB Install Guide which is stickied. I'm not really in the mood to re-type everything here, especially since -for me- it is shrouded in might's and may not's rather than actual irrefutable fact -- I use Vista and have not experienced anything of the sort at all.
In short: don't install games in your Program Files folder, and don't just let the Installers do whatever they do automatically; review it before pressing OK/Continue.

Well I figured I just let it go into "Program Files" since everything on C: is a mess. I don't like it messy, and that seemed to be the cleanest way to go.
Vista seems to have folders and files all over the place, doesen't look as clean as XP did.
Don't understand why "Program files" is a bad thing, and don't want a heavy explanation either.
Allright thanks for answering.
I'm going to re-install and throw it into D:, hopefully that will sort things out. :)
I'll be bumping this and hopefully get some answers again if it continues.
Carthage_supreme I can at least help you obtain save games.
You see when highlighting the "EB" folder you need to press a thing called "Comatibility files".
It's a bit hard to notice it at first, but if you look carefully around there you should find it eventually.
Just hit it, and you should find the "save game" folder among other things that are otherwise hidden.
Hope that helps. :)
Oh and Tellos Athenaios if I could just bother you with a quick question. :)
So basicly the campaign I've been playing the past week has been a waste of time, since RTW/EB has been in "Program Files"?
Just so I know, don't want to keep the save game if I've been playing with a "EB" that wasn't working correctly.

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that your save game cannot be guaranteed to be 'clean' i.e.: not to contain any corrupted data. So maybe it can be preserved and used on your re-install of EB. Maybe not. I almost expect it to work just fine but I don't know since I never tried it. :juggle:

Well thanks for the replies.
Done re-installing it into my "User" folder, just to make sure nothing goes wrong.
Hopefully it will work just as well as on my old computer. :)
