I made a new trait which looks like this but for some reason now almost every general in the game has these stats. How can I prevent it? Should I just put Threshold on a really high number? What does Threshold do anyway, I know its supposed to control the number of times you have to do something to get the trait but where do you define what that something is?

Trait omgwtflol
Characters family
Hidden

Level ejeetgeneral
Description Swift_desc (note: I just copied this from another trait but it doesn't matter since the trait is hidden)
EffectsDescription Swift_effects_desc
Threshold 1

Effect Command 20
Effect LineOfSight 20
Effect MovementPoints 20
Effect Influence 20
Effect Management 20
Effect Law 20
Effect Squalor -20
Effect TroopMorale 20
Effect PersonalSecurity 20
Effect HitPoints 1000
Effect BribeResistance 1000
Effect Fertility 20

Also is there any way I can remove this from all those generals at once? I'm too far into the game, I don't want to go back.

All I did was add the trait to my character in-game.

There is no edit button? anyways, it works well if not for the fact that many of the generals I meet in game now have these stats as well.

What you need to look at is the trait's trigger. There you can define which faction will get it (you can limit it to your own faction for instance), as well as how easy will be to get it etc. Have a look at Squid's Complete EDCT/EDA Guide over at the Scriptorium, it will enlighten you a great deal.

I didn't even make a trigger so I figured, noone gets the trait unless I assign it to a guy. But apparently not....

how did you add the trait to your character in game?

in descr_strat at the start? or were you trying to use a console command?

And you didn't make a trigger? Then how can all the other generals have it?! Just to be sure, try to give the trait proper text tags.

I don't understand, I was hoping someone here was going to tell me what I did wrong. Since the trait is hidden, I can't actually see if theyhave the trait, but almost all generals have full stats. Little suspicious isn't it? When I spy on them and check their traits they mostly have bad traits, so its a hidden trait.

I play on hardest difficulty, does this make the cpu generate 10 star enemy generals?

Is there any way I can see hidden traits?

Yes remove the Hidden attribute and the trait will appear when you load the game. If you do this make sure you have properly defined the level name, description, and effects description in export_VnV.txt, otherwise you'll get an errorless CTD.

Also if you're playing certain mods they add bonuses to AI characters to make the game more difficult, if you happen to be playing one of these mods then they AI characters will have good stats across the board.

Yeah I'm playing Europa Barbarum. But the generals have like command 10, influence 10 and management 10.. kinda hurts the roleplaying aspect for me.

Ah, why didn't you say so before? EB uses traits to give AI generals various bonuses in order to provide a greater challenge for the player (as if everything else was not enough :P) So, it's perfectly normal that you bump onto uber-enemies. if that kills the gameplay for you, dig into the EDCT file and outcomment the trigger for that trait; asking around EB forums will probably get you an answer within 2 mins...

I guess I'll look at that then, what do you mean with "everything else"? I find that the AI didn't improve a lot. Only thing I noticed is that they try to flank me more, but I still outflank them every time. They also attack my infantry with spearmen (spearmen have a weakness for infantry, I think it came with EB) and don't know how to use the withdraw->charge->withdraw tactic with cavalry, while just leaving the cavalry fighting without that tactic is pretty ineffective in EB. They also just attack with their general where it leaves them vulnerable to flanking.

EB does a great deal of things to improve the game's difficulty, ranging from scripted money, armies and population replenishment to expensive units and buildings and whatnot. AI however is ummm... not very bright in RTW and there's not much that can be done about it - hardcoded stuff. Spearmen (that use the spear/light-spear attributes) are given hardcoded penalties against infantry, that's RTW, not just EB. Formations can be tweaked a bit in order to provide better results, but don't expect to fight against Alexander the next time you play a battle. Suicidal generals are also an RTW thing, and though they have been limited by formation mods, they are not yet extinct. Most people think that cavalry in EB is generally underpowered, but the Devs say that's the way it's supposed to be historically. The mod has lots of mini-mods that change certain aspects of the game, for those that don't agree with all the decisions the Devs have taken, so I suggest you try one that suits your style.
