Hi!

Let me first say, that EB is just great. No other such well made mod. Playing other mods after EB is just like eating dry bread :)
OK, but the problem is whith the huge main script. Actually it will be no longer problem for me, as I'v ordered E8400, but for some people, the lenght of turns is just unbearable. So what about creating a LITE version of the script. I'm sure there are things which can be taken away without drastic impact on the gameplay. Various person-related events and so.

Think about it :)

well there is a way to remove the level 4 goverments, which i hear makes the game run faster...

That's like asking which one of our children we would kill in order to give you an extra minute between turns. :laugh4: "Kill the spawned client rulers!" "Kill the auto-governments for AI factions!" "Kill the alliance scripts for Celtiberia or the Boii!" "Kill the diplomacy scripts for Messana and Trapezous and Byzantion!" "Kill the AI citizen replenishing script!"

please don't kill the children. i love them all equally!

What? L4 government build its own buildings and/or units? I mostly go for L2 :)

Government determines which buildings you can build. The most obvious are the MIC (barracks, local and foreign).

As an added "bonus" a lvl4 government gives you a client ruler.

No it doesn't. It's just that the computer spends a lot of time determing where and if do you have client rulers.

There is a lite version in the unofficial mods subforum, which takes out the 40% of the script that pertains to client rulers.

the script is one the things that makes this mod great.

Its sad that ur PC is having trouble handeling, before I upgraded mine, I had the same issue. But I just found something to do in the 10-15mins between turns.

Save some $$ and buy some more RAM.

As I said, I'm already waiting for my new E8400. But not everyone is such lucky as I'm :)
Until then I'll play some other mods.

It's a feature. It is widely recognized by health care professionals that one should have small breaks between intense gaming sessions, in order to alleviate the strain on ones eyes, neck and shoulders (especially in the case of poorly designed ergonomics). You could, for example, do a set of push-ups and sit-ups between each turn - it's the EB recipe for abs of steel!

Maybe someone needs to sticky the change in the script, so people don't have to keep asking for it.

My abs are a lot less steely since I upgraded my pc...

Interestingly, I seem to find myself saying "why did I just do that?" more often now, which I put down to less time thinking about strategy in between turns. You should savour that time, it can really improve your gameplay. Or at least your abs...

Hee, which is why even today with a fast comp I still manually record my actions and construction tasks on paper in a ring bound notebook. (I've filled something like 30 A4-sized ones since I first bought RTW) Gives you time to think.

Laughing out loud, man. That's what I've been doing! I swear, EB has been my salvation. I was about ready to upgrade my computer and buy MTW2, but now I think I'll wait--until someone comes up with a mod for that game as good as EB. Really wish somebody would do a historically-accurate mod for the medieval period, I love that time.

EDIT: And I'm doing this all on an old 1Ghz Dell with 512mb of RAM and a 128mb video card. You can imagine what my end turns are like.

EB is missing out on some of its possible fan base just because the script is so immense for the computer to handle. I for one, would have taken far better to EB had it not taken so long to load etc.

The script actually help make EB a more detailed, more immersive game... but yes it does make it a lot slower. I can, however, live with it both on my Phenom desktop (which only takes seconds between turns) and on my old laptop (which sometimes takes minutes between turns).

mine is definitely on the minutes scale. but i'm also in the working out camp. furthermore, i often read between turns, and i love the fact i can "play computer" while also doing something else i enjoy, namely reading. given that normally one can't do both at the same time, it's a welcome change.

i'm also in the same camp as those who enjoy planning strategy - the game can be so expansive, and decisions do need to be made carefully that it's satisfying to have a little more time to plan.

My strategy takes years to implement. So when I've settled on one, I don't want to have to take forever to end my turns.

Yes, sometimes somw waiting time is not bad. Especially if one would be able to scroll the map and look into settlements even when AI is playing. But if I just have my strategy set and I just basicly wait 'till a unit reaches its destination, or so, it is very annoing. Anyway, I have my new processor, cooler and I'll soon fetch motherboard and memory... only damned new power source will arrive next week... blah, blah.

Run the game in windowed mode (-ne), and you'll be able to task switch much faster and can read up on the EB forum, watch a youtube video etc while you wait for your turn.

Yep, I use the time to read read read, especially that I have internet on my phone I'm able to check up on eb forums almost anywhere. Its great, but I am getting 2 gigs are ram for my bday this week so I'm hoping that will solve my "waiting" problem..

Patience is a virtue, my dear sir. Perhaps EB is only properly appreciated by the virtuous. :idea2:
