View Full Version : The Main Menu Background (shadow warriors)
You know, the silhouettes of those soldiers in the background. Is that at all moddable? I know in Samurai Warlords that they managed to change it, but I'm not sure how.
Also, another question, if one province has two or more bonuses on it, how will this show in the game? By that I mean those +1 Valor bonuses to certain units trained in that province.
Thanks for any replies. :2thumbsup:

I think it has something to do with the way the units are arranged in the unit_prod. Ex. Byz Cav and Byz Inf both have a bonus in greece(I modded it that way) but only the Byz Cav gets shown as it shows earlier in the file.
Ahh, ok... Makes sense, thanks.
Now for those troops in the background...

I don't think you can make them go away - it's probably the reason so many mods have very dark background screens :beam:
It's certainly not a file format I recognise...

Raz,
about the silhouettes, I'm afraid you can't mod them.
The file format is unknown. I know nobody who knows how to edit those files.
With Samurai Warlords we're lucky that we can just use the files from Shogun, which are in the same format.

Oh, another bummer. *sighs* :shame:
Thanks for the info, though.
I'm in the same boat Raz, tried my damndest to get those figures out of the screen, that file format is totally unique to TW, theres no info on it at all. I just planted some other graphics in there to camouflage it a bit.

which files are these, if I may ask?
P.S. never mind, found it, the .cmp files.
EDIT: Ok, took me some hours of hex editing and a bit of programming, but here are new files that remove the silhouettes.
Just replace the left.cmp, right.cmp files with the ones in the rar archive, and them halberdiers will trouble you no more.

EDIT #2: after the soldiers are gone you'd notice there is still a shadowed strip near the bottom.
to cure that just select the bottom most 78x800 pixels with your favourite graphics editor, go to color levels, take the right little triangle (the white one) and move it to the middle.
This should cancel the shadow.
If you've really done this (downloading now) I will forever be in your debt.
Can't wait to try this. :nice:
I wonder why more people haven't seen this...
Sorry for the late reply... Tried it, awesome stuff. That's quite amazing. Who'd a known you had to use a hex-editor to take it out... Two thumbs up from me. :2thumbsup:

Glad to be helpful.
If any of you uses it in their mod, please credit me in the readme, or something similar.
