It's the third time I try and the game freezes:

Alexandria is under siege by a Ptolemaic army coming from the west.
I bring my faction leader with his horde to break the siege from the southwest.

Deploy my troops, hit the start battle button and... nothing. I have to get to the task manager to exit the frozen game.

Looks like the game doesn't like odd battlefiels like this one on the isthmus between Alexandria's laguna and the mediterranean. Maybe AI's deployment is made impossible by the shape of it's zone.

Did anyone experience that?

There is a bugged square near Alexandreia. It looks like you found it.
You'll have to auto-calc the battle in order to get past the problem. (Use the "auto_win attacker" cheat if you wish.)
I think a lake was put on that tile or something for the next release.

Thanks for the answer. I found the solution: sallying with my garrison, kill one fourth of the attackers, enough for the besiegers to retreat to the other side of the city when attacked by my field army. And then crush them.

I won't let the Ptollies besiege Alexandria anymore...

It ought to be fixed, at least, I fought a battle there today, no problem.

IIRC it is. In the internal build only, though.
