I`ve been wandering if someone have ever achieved thalassokratia and have become the ruler of the seas.

Pirates come from anywhere at anytime and ships are quite costly. Is it possible to get rid of them? Achieve thalassokratia is as impossible to achieve as augustian reforms?

BTW, where can I find a list of those roman provincias? I have about 40 settlements and only got sicily and korsim/sardim provinces.

Pray tell, what is Thalassokratia?

And you ought to already have a governorship as long as you have a governor in those provinces, apparently. Governor of Sicilia. Not sure if there's one for the Lipari islands as yet...

Is it like a trait or are we wondering if it is possible to defeat the pirates and truly become "master of the seas" in an unofficial sense? I haven't actually had that much difficulty with pirates playing as a Greeks, Carthage, or Romani. Ships are expensive, so you need a decent economy, but with a few fleets you should be able to dominate. Remember, upgrade your military ports and build the strongest fleets you can, it really pays off as they increase in strength exponentially. If you are trying to win battles with converted merchant vessels that many of the weaker fleets are, you will probably lose most times.

Not exactly. It is the ancient equivalent of the way the USA eventually effectively defeated Japan in WO II. I.e.: you control the sea, therefore you dictate warfare on land.

Glenn, you're still as abrasive as ever.
