changing units weapons

I have been wondering how you would change a units primary weapon that they use in battle( if it is possible). One i have been trying, is to get knights templar to use a sword as their primary weapon (rather than a lance), but i can't get anything to work.

If anyone knows how to solve this it would be greatly appreciated.
(also: i'm trying to get it to work on kingdoms, not just regular medieval 2 total war)

That one should be easy.

You should be able to do it by quoting out the primary weapon at the first of the 3 lines for the primary weapon and its attributes.

Then the templar should theoretically use the secondary weapon always.
