1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
With Selection Sunday and the dawn of the NCAA Division I-A Men's Basketball Tournament (also known as the college basketball playoffs) bearing down on us, I wonder how many Orgahs are college basketball fans and, more importantly, how many fill out March Madness brackets.
I am willing to run a competition between Orgahs and crown the winner King of the Brackets. This will work like any office pool. You will fill out your bracket and PM it to me by a certain date (most likely Wednesday). Depending on the round number, I'll assign a certain amount of points for every victory you correctly predict, and post the standings after every round.
Detailed rules are below. If you are interested, please post. I'm not going to do it if I don't get more than a few people.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bracket:
Filling out and sending the bracket:
You can do this however you want; however, it has to get to me by the due time (TBD).
My suggestion is to copy it to Paint or a similar program. Select the area around the school you think will move on and paste it into the next space. Repeat as necessary.
Once your bracket is done, upload the image to your hoster of choice (if you don't have one, I suggest Photobucket) and PM it to me. Your brackets will remain private until after the deadline has passed, in which time I will be posting all of them into the second post of this thread for all to see.
Scoring:
The scoring system is as follows:
- 1st round and play-in game: 1 point
- 2nd round: 2 points
- 3rd round (Sweet Sixteen/Regional semis): 4 points
- 4th round: (Elite Eight/Regional finals): 8 points
- 5th round: (Final Four/national semis): 12 points
- 6th round (National championship): 16 points
Tiebreakers will be total points scored in the national championship game. If you forget to put it in your inital bracket, no biggie. If you're still in the running when the time comes I'll ask you for your prediction.
How to win:
Get the most points.
The winner will only receive bragging rights, unless some twisted mind in the .Org hierarchy wants to give out a badge for this. I'll be playing too. :yes:
~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember, if you're interested, post here. I want to gauge how many players we're going to have.
Good luck to all! :charge:

BADGERS #1
I'm in but don't expect me to be any good.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Bracket is now up.
Currently we stand at three people. If we get five, it's on. In the meantime, start working on those brackets! They are due by Wednesday 22:00 GMT-5.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
I'll give it a try, though I don't know much about basketball...

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Im in, and there BETTER be a badge :laugh4:
Just kidding :beam:
-
Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Okay, that's five pledges. Two brackets are already in (including mine), so looks like we're good to go. :2thumbsup:
-edit- Just because we're at five does NOT mean I am cutting this thing off at five. I'll take as many players as are willing, within reason.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
About 24 hours remaining.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Brackets are up (see 2nd post in this thread). There are four players. Good luck to all. :bow:
I will update the current results after the first round of games (probably Saturday morning).

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Hmm...Woad, your location surely didn't have any influence in your picks, right? :laugh4:
Just like mine didn't...because Drake WILL go to the final four...I hope.:sweatdrop:

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
You just watch. Brian Butch (AKA the Polar Bear) is taking us the distance.
Did Georgia seriously blow a 10 point 4th quarter lead??? That sucks.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Not my fault. I live right outside of Philly and I saw them get pounded by St. Joe's twice in eight days. That combined with Georgia's nice little run convinced me it would be a good upset pick.
Oops.

Anyone else watching Western Kentucky/Drake right now? WK seemed like they couldn't miss a 3 in the first half.

1st round results and updated table:
kamikhaan and Woadsy are both doing well but are already down Final Four teams. I'm bringing up the rear (:laugh4:) but my deep teams are mostly intact. nokhor has all his FF teams and is way out in front.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
Sweet Sixteen, baby!
Take that, nonbelievers!

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
figures,
the one year i don't actually put any money down on a bracket is the one year i have a good chance of winning.

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
2nd round results and updated table:
Comments:
nokhor extends his lead, picking nine correct 2nd round games. kamikhaan and woad are both down two Final Four teams and I expect will feel the pain after the Sweet 16. However, both of their final 2 teams are intact, so you guys aren't out yet. I've dodged some bullets and have 7 Elite Eight teams intact (curse you, West Virginia!) and all my Final Four teams heading into the second weekend.

That was an epic drought by Wisconsin in the 2nd half. It might've been more impressive than the one that destroyed the Mayan Empire. :jester:

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
3rd round results and updated table:
Comments:
Sorry woad. If it makes you feel better, that Wisconsin loss hurts me too, especially combined with the Tennessee loss. The left side of my bracket is done.
kamikhaan keeps plowing along, taking some losses but not his most important ones. His final two teams, UNC and Texas, cruised in the Sweet Sixteen. Are they peaking at the right time?
And finally, nokhor picked 5 out of the 8 games right, tying him with me for the round. Fortunately for him, I was behind in prior rounds.
So, heading into the Elite 8, all of us are hurting to various degrees. It's probably going to come down to how far Memphis goes (they lose to Texas, good for kamikhaan. They lose to UCLA, good for me. They win both games, good for nokhor).

Re: 1st annual .Org March Madness Challenge
4th round results and updated table:
Comments:
Wow, what a year for the chalk. How boring.
The scores are finally separating a little bit. All four people still have a chance to pick up some points, but with Wisconsin eliminated I think it's safe to say that woad&fangs is out of it.
The decisive game (#1 anyway) will be Memphis/UCLA. The winner of that will receive 12 points. kamikhaan and I need UCLA, nokhor needs Memphis. If Memphis wins, then nokhor will get his 12, putting him at 100 and out of reach (unless UNC beats them in the championship, see below).
If UCLA wins, then I get 12, go to 85 total, and wait for...
Potential Decisive Game #2.
If UNC is waiting for UCLA in the finals, then kamikhaan will have 74 points to my 85, with the winner getting 16 and victory. If Kansas is waiting for UCLA then kami's out of it. UCLA wins, I win, Kansas wins, nokhor wins.
So, to sum up:
Memphis over UNC: nokhor wins.
Memphis over Kansas: nokhor wins.
UNC over Memphis: TIE, broken by total points (kamikhaan, I'll need your total points if this is the scenario).
Kansas over Memphis: nokhor wins.
UCLA over UNC: GeneralHankerchief wins.
UCLA over Kansas: GeneralHankerchief wins.
UNC over UCLA: kamikhaan wins.
Kansas over UCLA: nokhor wins.
Let me know if my math is wrong, but good luck to all! :2thumbsup:
