Re: Factions without cities
OK I think I can do this pretty easily. The only problem is since I am making this for EB, what do I need to do to the UI files? (strat3.rsd and stratpage_03.tga)
AFAIK, I would have to open them each up with PSP or some simliar program, cut them out of the old one, and paste them into the new one. Is this true? Would this work? And where would I have to place the new icons, in the old spot?
If I could get that part done (probably the hardest part), I would then have to either disable sacking, or put in all the "settlement razed" texts. Does anyone know how to do the first one? It would be nice, since im not looking for hordes more then I am looking for factions that would survive longer.
Lastly, I would have to make a new horde unit. Does anyone know how many units I can squeeze into EB? I would simply make 1 horde unit for each faction..a basic militia of some sort, but I dont know how many more units EB can handle.
Thanks.
Re: Factions without cities
I have a suspicion that EB is probably at its unit limit. You don't have to make a new unit to make it a horde unit though. You can add can_horde to an existing unit and add the unit to the horde list in sm_factions. Only disadvantage of doing that is you can't give it the horde symbol on the UI card - and more importantly it will cost the AI the normal maintenance fee to upkeep the unit. (so if they don't settle soon they will go broke)
If you just want AI to put up a bit of last minute defence though, I doubt that is huge problem.
Also think the UI stuff doesn't matter so long as you aren't playing the hording faction (not 100% sure on that though) otherwise main thing is to use the BI .rsd files so it has the look up for the leave city icon (and yeah manually edit the tga's so that is on the file with RTW / EB icons)
Re: Factions without cities
Thanks Mak. I know that without new units, the upkeep will remain and the faction will go broke. But, in EB, doesnt the script prevent factions from going broke? I was reading in the EB forums and noticed that.
But, again, thanks, ill definatley try this out now that a good modder has confirmed it :laugh4:
