Re: What are you playing?
I'm always looking for a new mod to play. Whether major or minor. I prefer minor mods, but some major ones have caught my attention to. Like xgm i find to be a decent mod. Something that changes the feel of the game but doesnt completely change the game. That way it wont take to long to create the mod and people who liked vanilla won't feel disconnected from the game. Thats my opinion on the matter.
Re: What are you playing?
I've only played the Extended Greek Mod,as every other mod I try to download consists of pretty much a single RAR (or something thereother) file that I have no clue what to do with.
Re: What are you playing?
i tend to play little bit of everything..
i have played rtr, ibfd, xgm, eb and some minor mods ...
so .. i voted d .. sometimes this and sometimes that
Re: What are you playing?
I dont play it. Mainly because of my problem with the SPQR mod.
Re: What are you playing?
I've been playing with vanilla a lot, but I've recently started playing with the Vanilla Balance Mod (VBM) which balances the game but doesn't alter the feel of vanilla much. I've previously played vanilla with the Mercenary X pack, so it's fixes/minor mods with me.
Re: What are you playing?
O, that's exactly my type of customer :2thumbsup:
btw, RAR is just an archive which compresses files, WinRAR costs $$, however 7-Zip is free :)
Should work as you click archive, it opens in prog's window, you can extract it wherever you want (or actually need to)..

Hey,it worked! Thanks a million,Charge!
Re: What are you playing?
b) vanilla with various mini-mods (formations, maps, fixes etc)
i change the morale to false,so to balance the game even enemy general suicide themself in the field.............but this is not good for settlement defenses, coz the city garrisons have to take out last of the enemy to win but not rout them easily by fighting in the city hall, the only flaw........
and add the trade route to the Carthage as they are flourish by trading in the history....:2thumbsup:
Re: What are you playing?
Vanilla with the Vanilla Balancing Mod. I also have added a few of my own customisations - giving all units three hitpoints and removing the power of the later Roman unit roster/increasing the power of that of other factions.
I've also removed the phalanx formation, finding it a little imbalanced/overtly powerful, but have given all units which did have phalanx capabilities dramatically improved stats.

Re: What are you playing?
Usually just minor little mods here and there, but recently I downloaded EB...all i can say is wow. If you like the hostorical accuracy then download it...its amazing
Re: What are you playing?
I tend not to use mods. Im happy with the game the way it is. :furious3:

Those are some interesting ideas, Omanes. How do you find your battles play out with those modifications? Do they just take longer, allowing for more tactical depth? Or is there also an effect on the relative strength between troop types?

Battles are overall a lot slower allowing for more time to implement tactics. Without the modification I would not have actually been able to play R:TW at all today - I got too used to M:TW battle structure.
Units also seem to route when they have fewer men in them as well, but I'm not sure whether that is just coincidence or not.
Removing the phalanx from the Greeks and then improving their stats a lot makes auto resolve appear much fairer when playing against a phalanx nation. Beyond that, on the battlefield, they pretty much act like they did when out of phalanx only with a lot more power.
The Romans often seem to be worse off and rarely manage to go into world domination style expansion mode later on (although I do think that VBM itself is helping to stop that). It does sort of remove some of the fun of the Marian reform though - most post-Marian units now are simply better looking versions of their predecessors with a tiny increase in stats here and there.

Re: What are you playing?
Clean, unaltered Vanilla.
Re: What are you playing?
I've altered vanilla to play all civs, but that is it.
IceWolf
Re: What are you playing?
EB - The Much larger map, 4 turns per year, historical depth and proper portrayal of factions do it for me. No more crazy OP roman lorica segmentata flaming ninja pigs, no more phalanx only armies for the greeks, no more stone age egyptians, and now the barbarians wear more than trousers:2thumbsup:
unless your'e into that sorta thing:eyebrows:
Re: What are you playing?
Major mods until yesterday, when I started a new Julii campaign :sweatdrop:
Re: What are you playing?
Nowadays I only play major mods, though I recently started a Julii campaign. I currently have 20 provinces in that game and it's only about 15 years in. So much easier than EB, which is what I play right now. So much better than vanilla.

Well, except for those Gaesatae...
