Two quick Pontus questions
1. In the files for the game what faction is Pontus, or is it still Pontus?
2. Why does Pontus get the option to upgrade the game field to either a small gym or a zurkhaneh? I believe they have the same benefits so is there a way it could be moded so that you could build both?

Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Thanks Admetos for the quick reply.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
My guess for question number 2 is that the gymnasion means you are focusing more on Hellenic customs and shit, and the Zurkhaneh that you are sticking with the more traditional Persian stuff. Building both probably wouldn´t work. But do it this way, if you take a Hellenised city, say Ipsos, then you build a gym, as the Hellens there are more likely to appreciate it. And if you take say Media or Parthyaia, then you build a Zurkhaneh, as that´s what locals are most likely to appreciate.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
The bonuses on the level after that level might vary based on what you choose now.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Thanks for the insights guys. Just to clear a couple things up, you cannot build both and i'm pretty certain they both upgrade into the same building. With my little knowledge of modding I have been unsuccessful so far. I think where I went wrong is that I do not know how to add another type of building into the files. Assuming that, to be able to build both you would need to take the zurkhaneh out of the amphitheatre group in the export_descr_buildings file and place it into a new building group which you also created in some other file.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Most buildings in EB have been designed to allow you 5 different levels; however the engine-side buildings allow for 9. This gives you the ability to overload buildings, say you want to split thech-trees:
Code:
Precursor A0 upgrades{A1,A5} bonus lvl 1
Level A1 upgrades {A2} bonus lvl 2
...
Level A3 upgrades {A4} bonus lvl 4
Level A4 bonus lvl 5
Level A5 upgrades {A6} bonus lvl 2
...
Level A7 upgrades {A8} bonus lvl 4
Level A8 bonus lvl 5
However, AFAIK, you cannot 'down-grade'/'upgrade' i.e.:
Level A7 cannot upgrade to Level A4 instead of Level A8. (Hence you cannot build gymnaseia over persian equivalents.)
This thec-tree splitting allows for various things, among others to have a full set of barracks for two reforms on only one building slot; or to stack 9 unique buildings away as one building type; or differentiate between colonies of type a and colonies of type b.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Thanks for the info Tellos, lol things are much more complicated than I thought.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
I think pontus to weak ! after all they were the last greeks to resist the dirty romans :laugh4:
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Oh ? Merely out of curiosity, how do you propose they be "strenghtened" in a way historically accurate then ?
I'm not going to even touch the rank shallowness of your historical analysis.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Pontus can get tindonitae and scythed chariots..........what else you want
That means insta route.... PLUS....you get phalanxes and other stuff....
Idk ... pontus is pretty strong..especially when you add the galatian regionals at Ankyra.......
>.>
Plus they actually expand pretty nicely in 1.1, i had never seen them actually take most of anatolia...the bastids were trying to take over greece when i said AHH HELL NAH and i just sent 2 stacks their way as epeiros...

More cash at the beginning would be nice to survive :laugh4: I think the units are great maybe some unique unit from Sinope ?

You have to admit it's not historically correct :sweatdrop:
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
No. But neither is the Seles overrunning Pontos inside the first twenty years, which is what will happen if you try the other thing and disband troops. The AI has a rabid hatred of the human player after all...
So I'm kind of not seeing the points you're trying to make here.
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
More cash to survie ? Sinope unique units to add some flAvor to the faction ?
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
Sinope was just a greek city, it would have what EVERY other greek city has.
What you ask comes to the rank of asking to make units such as corinthian and athenian hoplites O.O

EB have spartan and massiliian hoplites why not sinopic ones ?
Re: Two quick Pontus questions
1. Spartan hoplites - THEY ARE SPARTAN HOPLITES lol
2. Massilian hoplites - Mix of Celtic and Hellenic warfare
3. You missed one, Syracusean hoplites...idk about those, they are kinda interesting tho...

They had a somewhat different kind of Phalanx, which is unique therefore they get their own unit.
If Sinope had unique hoplites they most likely had lighter quilted armor to deflect arrows, but unless theres archaeological evidence its a no-go.
