Unfortunately my monarch only has two sons, the other four chaps in the equation being his brothers - their father having died 18 years previously - so unfortunately the parchment is not strictly true unless the Byzantines possessed hitherto unknown advanced techniques in sperm banks and cryogenics.
On the other hand with all the instances of perversion, incest etc young Nicophorus could well be his own Grandpa or something equally bizarre.
I know that the lad's uncles get struck off the list when he or his brother succeed but in the meantime it's confusing
