Corrupted folder- can't uninstall or anything.
Hi first post here. Apparently I have to post this in here to have it moved acccording to the rules in the Apothecary forum.
I encountered a problem earlier today when I somehow did something wrong with renaming one file and deleting another to enable a feature on The Fourth Age Total War.
Problems started coming in game, during the load time for a battle I was given an error saying something about barbarian buildings could not be found, I OKed and it didn't crash or anything so I kept playing. A few turns later during another load screen another error came up saying something about big flags couldn't be found. I OKed that and then a second errro came up about small flags, the game then crashed to the desktop.
Later I tried playing again and was greeted by this error.
Error: filename doesn't exist: data/models_building/spot_fx/roman_city_gateway_spot_fx.CAS
After OKing that, I received this error
Script Error in data/descr_building_battle/dbb_walls_roman.txt, at line 699, column 28.
Unable to open spot fx file models_building/spot_fx/roman_city_gateway_spot_fx.CAS
I tried opening up vanilla RTW and RTW-BI and was given the first error about Roman gates, making them both crash back to the desktop.
I tried going into the Rome Total War\data\models_building folder to see waht all the fuss was about, but I had no luck as it said it was "unreadable or corrupted"
I decided it might be time to uninstall but again had no luck. When it got to a certain % and had to remove those files it gave me this error.
Internal Error 2330. 1932, D:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\models_building\models_spot
What can I do to be able to play again?
Thanks.
Re: Corrupted folder- can't uninstall or anything.
Well, oddly and embarassingly enough, a simple restart of my computer seems to have fixed the problem. for now? Upon restart windows was doing all kinds of disk checks and deleting a bunch of files and other stuff, I didn't catch it all.
I'm still going to do a clean install though, I don't have full faith in it and I wouldn't doubt if I continued playing I'd end up getting errors down the road.
I guess this thread can be closed now. Sorry for wasting anyone's time who actually read this. :wall:
Re: Corrupted folder- can't uninstall or anything.
Welcome to the Org Fierro! Sorry to hear about the troubles. And I agree, errors that magically disappear usually do magically reappear at very irritating times.
Since it's a mod issue, you may have better support from the Fourth Age general forums. I wish I could help, but sadly I'm clueless. Hopefully someone there or here has seen this issue and can help out.
Good luck!
Re: Corrupted folder- can't uninstall or anything.
Go to run and type in regedit. It brings up the registry editor enabling you to delete files. Find the folder/s with the corrupted game data in and delete the files then reinstall the game/s. Try the modding again and get it right.
Hope this helps.
Re: Corrupted folder- can't uninstall or anything.
Thanks for the replies guys.
After restarting my computer which made the error go away, I was able to uninstall RTW, BI and the mod with no troubles.
I reinstalled everything and it works just fine now.
I think I know what I did wrong the first time. I had to rename a file and delete another but out of instinct I immediately opened up the mod when it was installed. So I started playing a bit then remembered I had do to that and did it once I already had a campaign going.
If I had done those steps immediately after installing instead of after starting a game I should have had no problems. I did that this time and so far no problems.:sweatdrop:

Is there no way to edit your own post?
I meant to say that after installing the mod I started playing right away instead of doing the little fix right away. I don't think it came out clear in the post.

Welcome to the Org, Fierro! Glad you were able to get your issues sorted out. ~

You'll be able to edit your posts once you're a full member (which usually takes a couple weeks or so).
