Getting rid of my own client ruler
Howdy all,
I'm pretty sure this has been dealt with here before, but for the life of me I can't find it through searching...sorry in advance if this is a repeat...
I have a client ruler left over from an old Type IV government. I've replaced the government with a Type II but I can't move the immbile client ruler out of the city and I want to get rid of him so I can install a proper family member.
How do I assassinate one of my own client rulers? Or, at the very least, get rid of him?
Thanks alot for helping out!
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
You can't. Think of it as the old king sticking around kicking up a storm for being thrown out of office. You'll have to wait till he dies off.

Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
Or you could use move_character to send him off to govern the distant forests of Scandinavia.
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
I think moving a character residing in a city/town through the move_character cheat will result in a ghost appearing in the "forests of Scandinavia," and the character's unit card will still be in the city itself. You can only move characters outside of forts, cities, boats, sieges, etc.
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
strange but in my 1.1 i can move client ruler out of the city... i thought it was a new feature of 1.1, are you still playing 1.0 peraphs?
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
Yes, you should be able to move the guy a short distance. Though, your really shouldn't for role-playing purposes. Removing an (semi-)autonomous government and forcing your rule on them would not only upset the guy you just deposed but the people as well.

That would actually be kinda appropriate :laugh4: ... I always think that northern europe looks bloody scary and gloomy here from my hellenic throne... :laugh4: Me living in them in the real world really doesn't help:oops: .... Would be even scarier to invade Scandinavia from one's hellenic throne and realize that all of the petty client rulers, which one thought one had disposed of, are suddenly waiting in ethereal form to take their vengeance!:inquisitive: :laugh4:
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
Put him in a boat and send him to fight pirates. :skull: :titanic: :skull:
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
You can try to assassinate him, alt+right click with assassin I think.

not possible. You can only kill your own agents, but not family members
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
Why lol? why would you want to kill your own agents...but not annoying useless or just generally bad characters
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
Thanks to all for your thoughts on this!

Yeah, you're right...I guess I'll have to wait till he croaks. This would make sense in a role-playing context. But the client ruler is still pretty young (around 40 or so) which will make my wait rather painful!
Even if I wanted to risk it, I can't move my client ruler outside the city (I'm still playing 1.0). I'll have to check the appropriate file (can't remember which one) and will consider reducing the client ruler movement penalty. I did this once but have since applied a couple fixes and no doubt wrote over the change.
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
That's the risk you take when setting up client rulers. Their long life and inability to get rid of them was part of the plan when they were designed.
The file you're looking for would be the ".../Rome - Total War/EB/Data/export_descr_character_traits.txt".

Thanks for the info, MAA...yeah, I fell into a bit of a trap with this one. I had just conquered Oxtraca in Iberia and, in response to severe unrest and open rioting, I installed the easiest government I could to restore order as quickly as possible. Now I can't increase public order above about 80% and my mining income is greatly reduced. I figured a proper FM in town would really help...but it'll take awhile.
By the way...I miss reading those updates to your Makedonian AAR...that was a truly amazing read...looking forward to your next adventure!!!

Only if they are in an enemy settlement. That means you can only kill spies. I once had an assassin who was such a disgrace to all assassins of the world which I would have loved to kill, but it wasn't possible. He couldn't even kill simple rebel captains. But while being bad at killing, he was really good at surviving his inability. It took me a dozen trials to have him slain by some watchful bodyguard...

I found the new thread myself yesterday...sorry about that!
I echo others' comments about the historical preface...great stuff! And the way you're handling the civil war is fantastic. Really looking forward to seeing where it all goes...thanks for a great daily diversion from work!
Re: Getting rid of my own client ruler
when i need to be rid of a client ruler, I find that they suddenly get the desire to "be all that you can be" (find your future in the aaarmy, as an 'army of one'). they have this inexplicable desire to besiege that neighboring town with a full stack defending all by their lonesomes (for the glory of their hometown, of course, all of a sudden, that neighboring town must be annexed to the "kingdom of west bumf**k"). poor dears always end up getting killed though...tragic it is
