Getting rid of fog of war in inset map

I'm sure this is explained somewhere, so I apologize in advance, but how is this done? I have had no luck getting the full visibility that posts from the faction progression thread have. I did change the "fog of war" option to true in the preferences folder, but that didnt do much. Do I have to start a new game for it to take effect?

just hit the "~" key to open up the console while playing and type in toggle_fow
you can turn it on and off whenever you want to, so there is no need to start a new game.

Open the console with the tilde key (it should be located below your escape key); type toggle_fow; hit enter and presto.
