Re: TotalWar Superstitions
On the original EA Shogun server: never be the #3 guy to sign up for a match. #2, #4 or higher = OK. Every time I was the 3rd guy, someone would drop, and game-over.
I don't remember anyone else mentioning this. But after a couple weeks of signing up third, then getting a dead game, the superstition worked for me.
I just called it the "3rd-on-a-match curse", and waited.

Similar to this but playing MTW:VI and having one of the viking Battle Tracks Begin.
Also, every stack in my army had to have at least one Men-at-arms unit, irregardless of what kind of battle I was playing.
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
I've always had this odd superstitious belief that spearmen are good against cavalry. Total nonsense, I know...
I also worry that the ghost of every soldier I get killed needlessly will come back to haunt me.
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
for me in M2TW and RTW with expansions if the enemy started to route first I knew I would lose. If I started routing first I knew I would win.
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
 How do you lose a battle when the enemy starts routing?

Just as you send your heavy cavalry after the routing spearmen, and the freed infantry into the rear of remaining enemy infantry; the spearmen cease to rout and finish of your precious cavalry only to move on to impale your best infantry through their backs.
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
Poor. Maybe I need to come out of retirement and show you all how to finish a battle.

Thanks everyone for your answers.

If that were the case, I'd have a ghost army the size of Switzerland after me.

I worry that I do.
Every time I get a "friendly-fire" kill, or fail to get my archers out of the way of a charge, I die a little inside.
Hence the username :beam:
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
Right before fighting a battle where I'm the attacker, I have to go and get something to drink, even if it's just a glass of water. Apparently some part of my subconscious worries I'm going to become parched while fighting an invasion. ~ What's odd is that I don't have to do this when fighting defensive battles. :inquisitive:
Also -- and I'm sure this will come as a surprise to absolutely no one -- when playing as the Egyptians, all my main armies include at least 1-2 companies of Bedouin camel warriors. They may not necessarily see any actual combat, but I always bring some with to every major battle just the same. They've sort of become my good luck talismans. ~:)
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
Only 2 -->
I always lose if i concede the 1st kill of a game, and win if i get the 1st kill...
At the start of a game all my units have to be in parallel lines
:2thumbsup:
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
My only superstition is that I always form my heavy infantry into a line, with cavalry on the wings, and missile units and general behind the infantry.
Then I always win...
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
Who needs superstitions when you got camels...
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
I think camel caretakers might have a few choice responses to that question, Mithrandir.
I thought of another one: my eight-year-old son is 100% convinced that, every time the enemy army includes even one unit of peasants, he will win no matter how poor his tactics. I have yet to see him lose a battle under these conditions, but on the other hand I have yet to see him play on anything but Easy ~:)

Re: TotalWar Superstitions
If I train only hoplites for the entire EB camapian as bartika, I will be given the joke unit (No rewards for guessing that might be)
Slingers do lots of morale damage (I've seen units of Chosen Swordsmen rout after 1 volley of close range slinger fire)
The AI is biased on the roman factions (I'll probably increase the income of barbarian factions one day too see if it will make a difference)
Re: TotalWar Superstitions
When a single empty ship of yours doesn't make it to the port this round, it can sail on the next round unharmed.
When a single ship of yours, loaded with an army, doesn't make it to port this round, the AI will send rebel ships after rebel ships until it has been sunk.
