Best goverments for best units
Firstly very sorry if this is the wrong place but there doesn't seem to be any general EB forum, so i figured this subsection is probably the best place for this question (if there is a forum sorry and link please!)
I have started out as the Casse and i am well on my way to conquering mainland britian, just the scottish province at the top and then onto ireland, but in a few of the rebels armys i noticed units like celtic archers and mindlander champions, i assumed firstly that these where units specific to the casse, so i just put type I goverments where i could, but im now worried i have wasted time and money and that a type IV goverment would give me these units i want.
I have tried the recruitment viewer but errm haven't really got a clue what im doing with it...
Re: Best goverments for best units
I'm not an expert on Casse, but I know one thing for sure - you get 2 military reforms, and I believe you will be able to produce some new units after those reforms - you have to build several L3 markets, L3 temples and have several large cities.
Re: Best goverments for best units
ok slightly less worried now, thanks for the quick reply!
I was thinking of starting my game again anyway as i picked easy difficulty first, im quite good at total war and i think i was expecting more of a difficulty jump, now i have realised ive probably made the game a bit too easy...
BTW thanks to whoever made the Casse guide, invaluable advice for my first game!

The game is too easy on easy... but can be quite annoying on very hard... imho medium and house rules to limit oneself is the way to go. - but that's just personal preference.
And I'm actually quite sure that you don't need the type IV governments in the Isles - unless you want to recruit Celtic Lesser Kings :inquisitive: - just go for I or IIs when you can - after you get the reforms your military will receive its boost - note that the Celtic reforms also take into account your Gallic cousins so you might get those reforms faster than you think.

i have chosen hard/hard, ive heard very hard makes the enemy too aggressive and basically removes diplomacy, game always gets a bit too easy after initial hurdle to hard seemed the way to go, im a pretty competent commander as well but very hard can make unit matchups not quite work out how they should.

ok great, i wasn't sure if maybe III or IV where needed for some nice units the rebels start with, im happy with my I and II goverments for now, thanks.

Best is medium battle(EB is balanced over this) and anything other than easy for campaign.
Re: Best goverments for best units
Ok... I've just looked at an old Casse savegame of mine where I controlled the islands so now I can actually give better and precise advice. :book:
The only regions where you might decide to use lvl 4 or lvl 3 govs are the two regions of Ireland. On the main British island you should go with the best governments possible - nothing to recruit there except Siluri warbands in Wales... and you don't really need them.
The two Irish provinces can produce some nice Goidilic units and you can go for lvl 4 governments in both if you really want, but since they're both producing the exact same units, I say just stick to a lvl 4 government in Ivernis... that will give you the Goidilic units to toy with.
Re: Best goverments for best units
ive played a lengthy casse campain and will say that you should build the highest lvl (e.g lvl 1 or 2) in all of the isles except in ireland if you want the goidillic units.( i think the best units for the goidils have been removed in 1.1 so i wouldnt build a type 4 as you have to pay for the client ruler) the midlander champions are only available in the middle provinced and you get celtic archers after the first reforms. this is just my suggestion but dont use midlander champions as the casse champions are much better and can be retrained in gaul so it saves you time.
Re: Best goverments for best units
All champion type soldiers are elites and you likely simply haven't upgraded your MIC (barracks) far enough yet. Casse Champions are at level 4 or 5, factional MIC which is only possible to build under type 2 or 1 governments AFAIK.
Personally I have only recently (238 BC or so that is) began constructing a MIC beyond what is required for Milnaht (so that be beyond level 3 or 4). And that one is located where Milnaht simply are not availble, namely: Bibracte. Reason: Milnaht come at about exactly the same stats as Casse Champions; with more skill & less armour for the former and less skill but more armour for the latter. The only big difference in the champions' favour would be their 'eagle' (morale boost for surrounding friendly units); but the Milnaht more than compensate with their lower cost.
I have so far had 0 battles where I ever needed a morale boost for my units beyond what the awesome chariots could give me. And to be quite honest: I favour the scares enemy units of chariots over the morale boost because of that..

Practically, that's the best, but I like to add one or two units of Calawre for variety. But as a matter of fact, that goes for every faction I play. I try to use all types of units available. Especially with the Romans, where cost/effectiveness isn't really important.
