That mercenary recuiting spot
The one at the foot of Greece that was famous for where they often gathered. As a clue for anyone who hasn't noticed it, it's the bit with a crossroads of four provinces all meeting at the same spot.
Has anyone made use of it? I keep looking at it and thinking I should take a general or FM and see what's available, but keep forgetting. Especially now Epirus is mine so it's not far.
Does it replenish faster than some of the other regions? I note Spain in particular seems to be very slow to regenerate.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
It's just the Mercenary pool from various other regions(3?) I think one is taras, another is some ptolemaic anatolian one, another is in (I think) Massalia, I have no idea
They don't replenish faster or anything, its just that many different types of mercs are in one spot.

You can right click on the ground to see which region an area belongs to (and btw IIRC you are correct in the provinces you've listed, I think the Ptolemaic one is the region which Side occupies).
Cheers
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
I thought it was Taras, Tasos and Thermon.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
I thought it was a meeting point of four regions, rather than three? Certainly looks that way on the map.
Got to say, whomever's idea it was to do it that way, bringing the edges of provinces together, was a stroke of genius.

I recognised this spot, too, but it didn't cross my mind that there may be more mercenaries available. Thanks for the hint...BUT, what's a FM ???
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
Its a good place to pick up huge naked Celtic beggars, Karian warbands, cretan archers and Thracian/Thessalian horse.
And FM is family member.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
Woah... I sincerely had no idea that this was the reason behind that strange border. I always wondered wether it was a bug or not... I guess there's always a design behind the madness, I should know best hehehehe. :laugh4: EB gets more bonus points from me now... great stuff!
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
It is four regions, but only 3 small areas. The fourth of course belongs to Sparte.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
If say, I own the Sparta region but in getting mercs I move an FM onto the spot, will I be trespassing and commiting a transgression thats gonna spoil my diplomacy?
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
I doubt that. If you own Sparte, and thus have these three regions as neighbours, the game does not see you as neighboring, judging by the faction comparison (Neighbors only, instead of the usual Top 5).
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
The regions are Kalabria, Syria-Koile, Lakonia and one other which I can't see to get the cursor to hover over.

FM = Family Member
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
The other region is Kilikia iirc, which is Tarsos's province.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
I'm pretty sure it's Krete
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
No, Quintus with FondorYard's edition is correct. I have noticed mercs MILES from home - exile tarantines in Asia and Leukanoi in Africa - is this deliberate? I mean, what are these very local units doing so far from home?
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
I actually angered the Ptolemaoi by entering their territory on the cape. They went to war with me a few years later. Be careful where you tread!

I have much the same problem.
Also in game terms most of the time when I'm looking to recruit mercs, either I need them NOW in a specific location, or I can't really afford to be recruiting.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
It's a very good location for staging a raiding campaign. Send a ship with a family member there, get all the mercs you can afford and send them anywhere to raid. You can reach wherever you would like to in the Mediterranean within a few turns.
Re: That mercenary recuiting spot
Carthage should have one of these near it too :P
