Console commands and character names
Hi,
I had some problems this afternoon with the "move_character" command. Some people in EB have names with unusual letters - especially the Sweboz characters.
I got the message then that the character couldn't be found.
But also some roman characters have names like "Lvcivs" or "Jvlivs"....it seems that the console neither likes these spellings nor "Lucius" or "Julius".
How do I get the names I have to enter into the console ?
Greetings,
Amaris
Re: Console commands and character names
I wouldn't even bother with Roman names, they're impossible to predict, and invariably lots of characters have the same internal name. Fine for the engine, inscrutable and inaccessible for a human player trying to mess with them.
Otherwise the names.txt file lists what the internal values of most names look like, so search that.
Re: Console commands and character names
ive got the same problem on m2tw only it gives the error: destination tile not vallid how do i fix it i used this command: move_character Robert the Chivelrous 53,78
Re: Console commands and character names
The destination is not valid. Rivers, mountains, forests...you can't move someone there, try one digit up or down.

How would I move a captain around? For example, there's a KH captain on Rhodes that I'd like to move in order to make the situation in Greece more interesting. What should I type to move him?

Bring up the console with ~ (or equivalent on your keyboard). Hover the cursor over the location you'd like to move him to - and make sure from the tooltip that it's somewhere he CAN move, like a road or open ground. Enter
show_cursorstat
in the console, and it will print out an x,y coordinate like "103,81". Now hover the cursor over the captain's character to show his name, e.g. "Captain Alexandros". Then enter
move_character "Captain Alexandros" 103,81
in the console, and he'll be teleported to that spot.
When I move AI armies, I try to move them next to an existing city of theirs, since that's where the AI often starts building armies anyway. This seems to eliminate the occasional "stuck army" problem, where you teleport an army into the middle of nowhere and the AI just leaves it there. If you place it next to a city, the AI seems to always find a use for it...

move_character "Captain Eurgetes" 114,115
As an example.
Re: Console commands and character names
Thanks to both of you :) I moved him and the KH took Korinthos.

How-to-use-move_character-in-EB.
Maybe this can help in the future.

Actually, it does, you just have to look closer :-)

Damn it. Then I'm sorry for my hasty conclusion.
