well folks, here you can post you winning strategies if you like to share, below are two of my well balanced all round strats
i usually when picking armies tend to figure out what my base type unit is going to be, for me at the moment i pick between either a spear based army, or a MAA based army.
for my spear based army, for which i use more in defensive games, i tend to pick fuedal sergents and pump them up to valour four, with four units of these guys, you can hold, and even break the enemy center for a decent price. Then, depending on my florins i build the rest of my army. I usully take 2-3 units of FMAA to sit behind this line, and one the flanks, in a formation that is 2 ranks deep, these are great flanking units, and are tough to beat when being flanked by them. After these, i see how much money i have left. I usually take 3 units of arbs into the field in 1v1, and then if florins spareing, i take a unit or two of halbreds to place on my far flank. My general is usually a regiment of Mounted Fuedal Sergeants, acompanied by Alan merc.
how to use this army. Try to hold the center of your line with the valour 4 sergeants, then bring your FMAA around on the far flanks, with your other halbred units on the flanks guarding them from a cav charge. You then hold the line with your arbs firing our front, until they flee from the enemy, then with your sergeants, hold the line and bring your MAA into the enemies rear and flank. Protect your MAA with the hlabreds, and you should soon have the battle heading you way. Save your Cav for pesky archers, and to counter manouver against thier Cav.

now for the MAA setup
basically, this is where you take 4 units of valour 4 FMAA, and 4 units of Chiv sergeants Valour 3, 2-4 units of cavalry (mounted sergeants and alan merc), 2 units of arbs (to give your armies distance and so you dont get peppered to bits) and maybe one or two units of FFK. The idea is to have the Chiv Segeants to hold the center again, but have on your flanks 2 units of FMAA on each, in a line 2 men deep. Keep your cav ready to counter thier cav on your flanks, and then you advance on the enemy. I tend to hope for my enemy to make a bad move, then chrage, but it can be done however you like, but the idea is to have your chiv sergeants in a WIDE line to hold up most of thier units, while you smash thier flanks to bits with the MAA. The FFK are there in your center out of combat incase you can find a hole, or if you need to protect fleeing units. an alternative is to have all your MAA at one flank, and just drive it into the ground with the wieghted flank idea.

I've been very successful with the following as Italians
General - Feudal Knights
Mounted Xbox x3
3 Italian Infantry
3 Order of Foot
2 Feudal MAA
2 Chivalric Knights
2 Cavalry - light to medium
Italian Inf and OOF in front and flanks with MAA and Knights behind to exploit openings and do the flanking.
Xbow to soften them up and later to exploit flanks and rears as well as to chase routing units.
Cavalry to chase missle units away (hold formation!) and to counter other cavalry.
General held in reserve till needed.
Most valor on General, none on xbowmen and rest spread evenly as possible.
Army works well both in attack and defense.
Lately I've been taking no missle units and replacing those units with more cav and one or two foot units. Makes a great attack army that way.

well i tend to find that trying to pick a winning strat with as little florins as possible is a bonus, because you can always go better with more

Well personally i choose a different army everytime. what is the point of using other peoples strats, i think that you can only learn by your mistakes by choosing the wrong troop for the wrong sort of battle in any case. Making more than one strategy is a good idea too coz it gets rather repeditive and if you are playing multi people will work you out and beat you. Also why would you give your strat to other people? unless you want people to just overrun your army in multi.

The game lends itself to a balanced army, perhaps the devs did that with intent, but ive found the directional armies are not what they were in shogun.

well thats fairly simple, to help me get better. If i find i can make a strat that wins most of the time, then why not share it to let other people try it out and modify to thier blalance? at least this way it reamins a challenge

as the english which is my favorite faction i usally have.
6 longbowmen which cut the enermy down by a quarter before they arive to try cut my elite men up.
4 billman to take on cavary and and units. and basiclly win the battle for me.
4 Men at arms to fill in the gaps when my billmen are fighting.
2 chilveric knight to flank with and get the routers.
this might not sut many outher people but it suits me and contains all my best units.

Multiplayer strategy
I usually play late era, and I use the arbalester as my ranged unit. My basic army is 4 cav, 4 ranged, 4 spears and 4 swords with my general being one of the cavs. That army provides a lot of flexibility, but I'll sometimes slant it towards more hth infantry and less ranged or cav if I think I'll be rushed by infantry. I'll also substitute polearm units for the swords if I expect to be facing mostly cav. My usual setup is ranged out front, spear line behind that and swords behind the spears with the cav protecting the flanks. You can attack out of that stance or defend by dropping the ranged back behind the spears.
My battle strategy is to maintain a strong center with the hth infantry and see what I can do with the ranged and cav units. Eventuallly, the battle comes down to engaging with the hth infantry. It's possible to loose either the ranged or cav skirmishing and win the battle. However, if I loose the hth infantry fighting, I've lost the battle.
When playing with allies, just make a simple plan at the beginning. If you want to deviate from the plan as the battle progresses, let them know and ask if the change in plan is ok with them. Walk your army into position to avoid unnecessary fatigue, and be aware that, if you move too far away from your ally, you are opening up the possibility of a double team attack by the enemy on one of you. As your judgement of time and distance improves, you can even use that as a ploy to entice the enemy into an unwarranted attack. If you are attacking with allies, double team an enemy army if possible. You may have to commit some units to block an enemy's ally trying to come to the rescue.
One of the most enjoyable things about this game is finding players who's style of play compliments yours such that you make good allies.
