Hello!
Does anyone know how "noble archers" or "elite archers" should be named in ancient greek? I guess it's Aristoi Toxotai or Basilikon Toxotai but I cannot confirm it..
And what should be the greek name for "armoured skirmisher cavalry"? I found Thorakismenoi Hippakontistai and Thorakitai Hippakontistai, but "Thorak..." seems to mean it's mail-armoured, rather than just being "armoured"...

I don't know what the view of the Makedones was on the use of the bow, but the bow was seen as a coward's weapon in Ancient Greece. Basilikon Toxotai would mean Royal Archers, literally.

Now so far as "noble" goes, the words to use are "Aristoi" (alternatively you could use Beltistoi=the best), but I would use "Eugeneis"=Of good seed/birth.
Both those you mentioned could work, but there was a deffinite word for that.
"Tarantinoi Bareis" or Heavy tarantines. Such were those who fought for the Spartans (when they were led by the only non-Spartan to rule them a Regent from Taras), when they lost to the Achaian league. In fact Spartan Tarantines clashed with Achaian Tarantines, head on, leading to the beginning of the battle. Those would be different to "Elaphroi" or light who would throw their javelins and flee. Tarantinoi would replace "hippakontistai" and as Asklepiodotos mentions "Tarantinarchos" or leader of Tarentines was a military rank in Hellenistic Athens.
