Taking advantage of being the pope.
Just started my 1st long campaign as the English. Had on of my cardinals elected as the pope and was wondering how to use this to my advantage. Like say attacking France or Scotland as they are the next factions I could expand into without getting excomunicated.
Re: Taking advantage of being the pope.
If you're already at war with a faction, your pope will have poor relations with them when he's elected. This will normalize over time if they're obedient. If you attack (declare war) afterwards though and you have about the same standing with the pope you will have little to no advantage apart from the initial boost in relations you get when your cardinal gets elected.
Re: Taking advantage of being the pope.
what about making a alliance with the pope and then try to get them to attack you, that usually excoms them
Re: Taking advantage of being the pope.
Not unless the pope goes to war with them, afaik. You can keep your standing quite high though by being allied (Some mods may change this, so I'm not sure) which certainly makes it easier to get an aggressive opponent excommunicated. But it's not instantaneous upon declaraion of war I think.
Re: Taking advantage of being the pope.
not instantly excomed but they will lose points with the pope and be eventually excomed
Re: Taking advantage of being the pope.
The main advantage of having a pope from your cardinal is that you won't have to see your biggest enemy's priest grab the holy throne. Other than that, relationship is just the same - it can deteriorate just as fast to when the pope was not from your cardinals.
