A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
I already have eb1.1 and rtw installed under program files. If i make a directory called c:/games and instal rtw there and then install eb1.1 there from the installer that came with the eb that i have in program files, will it work? would this cause bugs or make my other eb not work?Sorry if this is confusing.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
the problem would be the trivial script... I might be wrong but according to me you just need to
install it somewhere else and then open your orignal RTW folder in program files and erase ebconfig.xml file :book2:
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
A second install off the RTW disc is (assuming normal circumstances, such as the registry left untouched) impossible.
An ordinary backup of RTW patched properly + install of EB on top of that should work; IIRC the EB installer allows you to install EB on your PC multiple times...
And I have no clue what kind of thing ||Lz3||'s suggestion is meant to solve?
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
If I understand your question, you can have several EB installations yes.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
My question was, if i created a new directory called c:/my games and installed eb and rtw there, would they work? Or would this cause and error and then neither would work>
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
Install RTW => You cannot do this without uninstalling your old RTW.
Copy RTW to another folder => You now have two functional RTW instances (copies).
Install EB into x RTW instances => You now have x functional EB instances.
So the answer to your question precisely is YES, by installing RTW and EB into a new folder it would work, however your old RTW installation is destroyed.
Again: Copy RTW to another folder, then install EB into that. That's what the installation guide says.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
Since the installer of RTW gives the possiblity to change the installation path, setting it to something like 'd:\games' (which is my install location) does work. You only have to bear in mind, that you have to point the EB installer to the correct path, where you have installed RTW to. If you already have an installation, Windows may prevent you from a second installation because it thinks you already have installed it, which results in not giving the option to install it.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
:juggle2: so I re-animate this thread: I'd like to have two versions of EB. One for a PBM, the Vergina Sun and a second for my ongoing campaign where I switched to BI.exe. and changed the EDU a bit.
If I want two independent installations, a have to:
1st - install RTW ( in my case german GoldEdit - with BI )
2nd - make a copy of it and name it different, e.g. 'Rome for TVS'
3rd - install EB in two times with 1.2 fixes
4th - install the wanted/needed submods in each case and make the edu changes.
Do I understood this right? Please correct me :help:
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
Yes, that will work.
IIRC, you can also:
1. Install RTW
2. Rename that RTW so that it's not in ...\The Creative Assembly
3. Install RTW again
4. Install EB etc...
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
but it will be the same outcome? 'cause just copy it is done in lesser time.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
It will be the same outcome, but renaming and then reinstalling went much quicker for me.
If copying goes quick on your PC then do it that way.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
You can not install RTW and install RTW again, without uninstalling in between.
You want to either do as you said:

Or, you can save a bit of time by installing EB before copying, as you want two EB installations anyway. However, you may want to make an additional copy of the vanilla RTW before installing EB, so that you never have to install RTW again, but can rather copy that vanilla installation.

Really? I though I somehow managed to do that anyway...? :inquisitive:
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
Perhaps the Gold version is different to the old RTW discs then. At least it wouldn't let me install again while I had it already installed.
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
How can I have two copies of EB though? My current install uses Trivial Script, so I run off of that. If I installed another EB copy, it'd rewrite the start menu shortcuts, and those would only work off the new EB installation, leaving me no shortcuts via Trivial for the original EB. Sorry, I just don't see how it works...
Re: A question about making a backup of eb and rtw
Yes, you would have to use a shortcut instead of the Trivial Script when you have two EB installations.
