Are you looking for primary sources?
Otherwise a clean-cut summary on all things you might want to know is featured in Kaveh Farrokh's latest Osprey book: "Shadows in the desert - Persia At War"
From there you could move on to on-line resources such CAIS-SOAS, Sasanika and Iranica. Sasanika in particular has many of the essential primary sources featured as PDFs, freely available and free of charge.
TPC, I could have sworn don't trust Osprey books. Or, is this an example of them being a hit or miss, and this one being a big hit?
This one is a hit. Quality nutshells are hard to come by, and normally I don't even touch Ospreys; Dr. Farrokh's work however stands out, especially a brilliantly composed bibliography containing some obscure primary sources even I haven't checked out. His previous one on Sassanian elite cavalry left more to be desired, but this one is pretty much the perfect newbie introduction.
Thank you vety much TPC
