Getting into certain factions
I just recently played a long campaign as one of the civilized factions and decided to take a small break from EB when I was done. A couple weeks later and I'm back on board the EB bandwagon. I decided to play as the Arverni again since it's been a while since I last played as a barbarian. I played the campaign for a few days but unexpectantly started losing interest. I'm afraid playing as the Romani for so long in my last game has somehow tarnished my view of the ancient Celts. My favorite EB factions have always been those of the ancient Celts but now I find it difficult to "get into" one of their campaigns. I actually caught myself referring to the Celts as uncivilized and smelly barbarians which I know is a stereotypical Roman and Hellenistic view. I was curious if this has ever happened to others. Has anyone else found it hard to get into a certain faction because maybe that faction was once your mortal enemy in another campaign?
Re: Getting into certain factions
usually a rousing warcry or rally speech shouted at the computer screen would get me into the faction fairly quickly...
try screaming "RABUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" when you charge your rabble... it certainly got me far enough when i played as aedui...
Re: Getting into certain factions
AAAROOO ARROOOO!!!
just think about what will happen to your people if you do not lead them against the romans!
Re: Getting into certain factions
I know, man. I fear for my people when they do not have me to lead them to glorious victory against the vile Romans!

Re: Getting into certain factions
No. Nate is Caratacos, who unfortunately is no longer working on the mod.
Re: Getting into certain factions
I've never been able to bring myself to do a Ptolemaioi campaign. I know they have an excellent unit roster and I know the campaign would be incredibly fun, but I can't because they were the rivals and chief enemies of the Seleukids.
Ever since I first played as them in vanilla years ago I've been a HUGE fan of the Seleukids. Playing as them got me interested in their history and the more I read about them the more fascinated I became. I consider myself fairly well-learned when it comes to most of their history, with the only exception being my disinterest of their time after Antiochus VII Sidetes as after his reign there was almost nothing but dynastic infighting. Almost everything I know about the Seleukids, Antigonids, Lagids and the Hellenistic Age as a whole is self-taught, gained from reading books ranging from ones that only just discuss the original Diadochi such as Alan Fildes & Joann Fletcher's Alexander the Great to more specialized sources such as B. Bar Kochva's The Seleucid Army: Organization and Tactics in the Great Campaigns.
My fascination with the Seleukids and the inspiration their history (and EB) give me has caused me to begin writing a novel series based on the life of Antiochus the Great. I've also started a more fiction focused story called The Sun and the Star, which is centered around Antiochus the Great and Philip V with alternate versions of the Second Macedonian War and the Roman War of Antiochus the Great.
All of this is the reason why I've never played a Ptolemaioi campaign. One never knows for sure, I might actually give them a shot in EBII :laugh4:

No, like bovi said, it was Nate who did those works.
Re: Getting into certain factions
damn, I wanted to ask him if he had any other art like the aftermath of that selucid/ptolemy battle. It was really good and i wanted to print out soemthing like that and hang it on my wall.
thouuugh if you have some stuff like that, i wouldn't mind having a butchers hook at your portfolio

Same thing here. After playing the hellenic factions extensively, I tend to have the same stereotypical view of ''barbaroi''. I have tried to play with the Arverni, Aedui and Casse, but i always found myself abandoning my campaigns very soon, sadly.

After having played many Eastern campaigns I could never get into playing the Seleucids. They are almost always my arch-enemy (at least until Egypt gobbles them up and takes that role). I did play a Seleucid game not too long ago, but I went scorched earth on all my cities and moved to Carthage. Got a ctd bug not long after that though.

You migrated to Carthage with the Seleucids? That's quite a walk.

No, I don't have much like that. Most of my works are limited to what my instructors want done. I wish I did though, seeing that I'm a big fan of Nate's work. Unfortunately, I do not work on things related to EB extensively as Nate did. Maybe sometime in the future if I ever decide to try it out.
Re: Getting into certain factions
Well, I have it quite the opposite to you, fenix. Whenever I'm playing as something that is not a "barbarian" faction, I long to go back to my clean Celts. The only exception would be when I played my Sabaean campaign, for some reason (which is why that's my favourite faction after the Celtic and Sweboz ones).

It wasn't that bad. Around 10 rounds or so by ship along the north shore of the Med. I had made peace with almost all factions that could stop me.

The Saba are your favorite faction? Wow, I really didn't expect that. Because of your name and sig, I always pegged you for an Arverni kind of guy, much like myself.
