Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
I've been meaning to complain irritatingly, but until now I restrained myself.
If there is one thing EB needs right now it is to iron out bugs and crashes. A little rebalancing wouldn't hurt, but I've not even been able to finish a campaign yet because every single one (played Romani, Quarthadastum, Casse, Ptolemaics and Getai) has had a fatal :skull: CTD, even going back 10-15 turns didn't fix it and in each case intervening using console commands only staved it off temporarily. The most annoying one was Romani, I was only 7 provinces from victory. So frustrating. Most were not related to rebellions. Client rulers and ordinary, captained stacks were causing some of the others. Also taking a city seemed to cause a lot. WHY? no other mod or submod I have played has had this problem. At least only very rarely.
As far as client rulers go, my suggestion is to stop the AI using them. That cuts away most of the annoying and crashey script work hopefully without impacting on the game too much.
This is a mod that requires patience and care above all else, but all your careful micromanagement and victorious conquest can be washed away in a torrent of fatal CTDs and C++ crashes and at potentially ANY time. And even for the fixable crashes it may take you about an hour to fix it, only to have it reoccur some turns later, perhaps worse. In my Ptolemaic campaign it was just awful, I had to intervene about 6-7 times in the first ~50-70 turns and eventually there was a fatal crash at the campaign map, without selecting or doing anything at all (presumably some script error, but when I left it off in reloading a much earlier save it happened on approximately the same turn). Incredibly frustrating.
So I quit.
Well, that's it from me. I'm going back to RTR. :laugh4:

My suggestion is to stop client rulers for AI factions completely.
AI was never able to obtain client rules so this point is mute. Client rulers where always intended as exclusive feature for human player.
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
Odd, I have had only four CTDs so far, all of them very minor ones that had to do with my video card drivers and I have been playing EB for about seven months by now. EB has been just about as stable as RTW for me. I guess I am just lucky.
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
I agree, been playing with a few different factions for a while and had maybe 3 'next turn' ctds in total, which only required me to fire up the game again.
Though i did have an annoying ctd against Yuezhi as Baktria during AI turn, 3 battles, 2 wins(1 heroic) and a defeat, followed by ctd as i returned to strat map from 3rd battle. Cant complain though, maybe Ive just been lucky.
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
I don't think I've had a single CTD in EB 1.1 yet, aside from those caused by my own feeble attempts at modding.
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
i keep getting ctd's with every faction I play exept the makedians and pontus.
the most annoing one is with sab'yn who wont even let proceed at all..............
so i kinda agree with seriousbusiness when he sais eb still needs working done on it.however i still think it is one of the best games around
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
yep i get too many ctd all the time after about 50 years regardless of which mod im in.
congrats to the team, but i can't see it working on a half-baked engine.
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
Any fatal CTD I get are due to corrupt save games.
Which is probably an RTW only thing.
Apart from that, I still have to encounter my first EB 1.x CTD!!!
So this makes it with large margin the most stable mod I've ever played. (And I've played/play a lot, including RTR)
Re: Annoyed complaints from one who won't stay to hear any answer
i've done 2 things that seem to have reduced CTDs to almost zero:
1. add -ne to the shortcut. this runs EB in windowed mode (visually it looks the same).
2. in preferences.txt, disable the autosave function
