CEO of CD Projekt with a sensible opinion about DRM/copy protection

I came across this and thought it was worth posting here as some kind of good DRM news and to prove that StarDog and their animalistic male genitalia are not the only company to not use DRM and to show that Poland does have some good sides after all. ~;)

Basically it's our capitalistic duty now to buy a lot of The Witcher games and games from gog.com to show companies that games without DRM actually sell better or else all those efforts will be in vain as the market will just show that DRMed games sell better anyways and thus the powers of the free market will keep using it. :no: :sweatdrop:
Alternatively we could send emails explaining our thoughts to the spamboxes of the respective big companies.
But I hope that this is some kind of trend as I tend to agree with this guy and people who just don't care will always pirate games anyway I guess. Either way it's one more company on the DRM-avoiding side. :2thumbsup:

Also note that Stalker: Clear Sky is shipping without DRM in the U.S.A. and Canada. This is because the StarForce they're using in the rest of the world is under a class-action lawsuit in the U.S.

Not as nice as someone who voluntarily goes without the DRM, but still, a nice game you can get without malware.

i fully intend to buy games from GOG.

I already bought the Fallout saga from GOG. Not really because of the lack of DRM, but because I like not having to rely on a physical copy (which can break/scratch/get lost). I fully intend to buy many more games from GOG, especially Operation Flashpoint (a game I already have, but want again for the above reasons).

DRM whether it is in games, apps or the OS itself simply alienates the user and has been shown time and again not to protect against large scale piracy. It might deter Joe Average from installing his game again on his brother John's PC and playing against him over the LAN but it won't affect organised pirates. Really it's just a waste of time and money. The games developer gains little or nothing from it and the licensed gamer loses out every time and is treated as a potential criminal from the start. It is only the developer of this junk sofware that rakes in the profits and goes laughing all the way to the bank.

There, now you shocked me, I was thinking nobody would be so stupid to use that anymore and now I have it on both my systems again because I was so stupid to assume the above. Well, now that it's on it's on I guess. :sweatdrop:
But kinda lowers the replayability of the game once I have reinstalled Windows. :wall:
