I suppose that you could just take the map file that is in the battle folder and copy it over... although you might run into trouble with map coordinates in the descr_battle.txt.
Honestly, my advice is to not worry so much and just try something instead of waiting around. I had to go into making historical battles pretty much entirely by myself with no actual help. Try one thing and then keep changing individual variables until it either works or doesn't work. You learn by breaking stuff and then fixing them.
The modding sections of both the .org and twc are rife with tutorials on how to do this sort of thing. I've just been looking for something very similar and bumped into many. Use the underappreciated search function.
