EB! Love the idea but hate the play!
Ive been playing TW series since the very beginning and I have to say that EB is by far the best game. As a student of History I am very impressed of the amount of detail and I admire your dedication to create the very best. Bravo!! But. And this is a MAJOR BUT. No matter who I play as, when i reach aprox. 250 BC the game just shuts down. Not always in the same place. But I can be certain that when I reach this point the game becomes unplayable: After a major battle it crashes, while I wait for the AI-nations to move it crashes etc. What a tease!!!
You have created a fantastic game, but why does it crash so often? why, why, why?
My PC is brand new. Lots of Rams, Dual Core and Geforce 9800 GTX something something, so that can't really be the problem. Can someone guide me? At this point I would give my left testicle to be able to play EB without these annoying setbacks.:help::help:
ps. I am Danish so please forgive me if my spelling isn't proper.
Re: EB! Love the idea but hate the play!
first of all, I am going to PM you my mailing address... I expect your left bollock in the coming week.
second, Have you tried installing all the fixes yet?
also your Enlgish is pretty good for a second language.
Re: EB! Love the idea but hate the play!
A couple of things from me...
I've often felt the same way, but with a little bit of work everything can be much better!
First of all, keep in mind that RTW+EB places much higher demands on your system than vanilla RTW. It's much more like M2TW. But it's all worth it.
As said previously, install all of the fixes. These fix most of the common problems. However, the 2 issues you mentioned are actually quite well known and fairly easy to avoid.
For the "crash after big battle" one, just waiting an extra 15 seconds at the post-battle summary screen can avoid this more often than not. I'm not sure exactly why, but it does. Take the time to review how each unit went, make a note of whom to berate for cowardliness, whom to praise for exceptional heroism, then click continue.
For the crash that occurs in between turns while the AI does it's thing, this is most often due to a revolt in an AI-controlled city. For some reason, revolts screw things up (in more places than one!). You'll probably find that by reloading your game (you do hit ctrl-S to quick-save the game before ending each turn, right?) and carefully watching the factions take their turn, it usually crashes on the same faction each time.
Here's what I do. Next time you reload, before ending your turn hit F1 (help), then the "?" button in the top right corner. That activates the trivial script, but you don't need to know exactly what that does (I don't). Then you can look at all of the cities that belong to the faction where the crash is happening. Any that have low public order (75% or lower) are likely to revolt, and are probably the cause of your crash. Press the "`" button and use the "add_population "city_name" -5000" command to reduce the population of that troublesome city, and chances are the revolt will be supressed, and your game will continue. Once you get past the crash, save the game and restart from there without the trivial script.
I didn't figure this last bit our for a while, and have had a lot of fun going back and continuing old save games where I'd come up against a crash that I couldn't get around before.
Also, Bovi is the man when it comes to CTDs. Check out https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=101971 and https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103681 for more info. It's not as hard as it looks, trust me!
BTW, your spelling is fine, and grammar excellent. Your English is better than most here
But you can keep your testicle. My scrotum is full right now :2thumbsup:

A few imprecise points there. After clicking the question mark button you also need to click SHOW ME HOW, like when you activate the script. Also, it's the Generic script, not the Trivial script. The Trivial script changes game preferences before launching EB, while the Generic script runs a set of commands that you program in. By default it toggles perfect spy. I know, poor choice of names, and easy to be confused.
Other than that, follow Apgad's advice. Read up on the links he gave you.

Thanks Bovi. That's why you're Bovi, and I'm not. Like he said!

"make a note of whom to berate for cowardliness, whom to praise for exceptional heroism, then click continue." you can do that???
Re: EB! Love the idea but hate the play!
You can certainly make a note. You cannot actually praise or berate though. He just means, find something to fill the time while waiting those seconds.
