Using old Laptop as touch-screen monitor?

Hello. First post in here for a few weeks, so meh.

I have a plan. A daring plan. Basically, I have an old computer sitting around, and a lot of music to put on it. Now, most people would bury it under their beds and be happy with using VNC, PHP, and other abbreviations THAT NO-ONE UNDERSTANDS, but not me. I have a monstrocity of a plan, that will RAWK.

Basically, I will havre the main unit under my bed, on constantly (It's a fairly quiet unit). It will be connected to a 'Control unit' consisting of a touchscreen, card reader, and a few buttons from an old keyboard, to control the damned thing.

Now, because I am CHEAP, and I might be able my sister to give me her old and RUBBISH laptop, so I may salvage bits of it. Now this seems a good solution, as it is cheap, and is relatively good quality, and decent size (about 15" or so).

The problem is: is there any way I can set it up, and just plug my old computer in, and it will work? I'm not particularily interested in using the laptop components, save the keyboard, which I might use in some way, but if that's not possible, I'm not really fussed. Secondly, I would like to install a touchscreen kit in it. Basically, in order to get these in, I will need to take the screen apart, put it in, and hope it fits. Or would it just be easier/cheaper to get a logitech air? I'm more interested in the touchscreen, as it is vastly cooler, but if needs must...

I saw this, but I have never heard of touch screen upgrade kits and I'm not some elektromechanical engineer superhero who would dare open his monitor so I have absolutely no idea.

I have heard of doing it, but only with stuff from the maker anyway, so im guessing not possible?

It's a piece of wizz. You get these kits from ebay, you open the screen up, pop it in, and connect it up. That's the easy bit. The bit I don't know is wether I can use the laptop as a screen for a second computer, or, even better, if I can use the keyboard and touch pad as keyboard/mouse for it.
